My Turbo seems to have fairly quiet explosions/etc, but the hum of other car engines is very loud even with the cab volume control at minimum (in fact it's blown one of the speakers) - I see a bunch of pots on the Turbo sound board, can these be used to adjust the volume of individual sounds, and if so does anyone know which one adjusts what?

thanks!

On my Mini, if you open up the coin door there are volume adjustment knobs right in there to control the upper and lower speakers (they're labeled as such). Not sure if it's the same on the other models but I'd imagine it is.

I've got a cockpit, it has 4 volume controls behind the coin door. The problem is the sound for passing cars is MUCH louder than everything else, especially on the left side which has blown the left speaker.

I found the answer to my question though, on the sound board:
vr1 - skid
vr2 - alarm
vr3 - crash (large)
vr4 - crash (small)
vr5 - ambulance

It was printed on a sheet inside the back door. I can turn them all up to be closer to the passing car sound, but there's a bigger problem - the left side pass sound is way too loud even with the left volume control minimum. Swapped the speaker connectors around and the problem moved with it (but the distortion stopped), so the left speaker is definitely blown and the left channel is making some sounds too loud.

I think I'll get a spare sound board and compare, could be that or maybe one of the amp units.

Also found the big 12" speaker has no foam anymore... Cone held in place with a scaffold of cable ties.

Sound boards are notoriously bad on Turbos. Is there a pot or something you can replace? I bought a cheap 12" subwoofer to replace the ripped one...you can probably pick up another left speaker at the same time. Just watch your resistance...

I'm thinking of trying the speaker repair kit approach on the 12". If the coil isnt toast then it should be repairable, you can buy the rings of foam and special adhesive. The other one should be easy to replace - that actually crackles when loaded.

I can see an evening of sound board diagnosis looming on the horizon, finding where the 'other car' sound is generated and tracing it starting from where it gets split into 4 feeds.

EDIT: And that's when I pulled it out, and found my sound board resembles a kynar wire rats nest. Someone has really shit all over this one.
