My turbo outrun turns on and plays, The memory test and rom test check out fine.

However the video sprites are random. the car will some times not be there. or it puts random buildings and signs in the middle of the road.

I just got this game from a warehouse so am not sure of it's history. It has the suicide battery that looks like someone has done the Replacement on. it it works.

I've tried removing all the socket chips and resetting. Same issue.

I've included an image.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance....

S0 This is an upright game. But i'm not sure it's the original board. how do i tell which romset i have so i can compare rom's on board to a mame romset

Actually the MPR chips on the Turbo outrun board read and verified using a "27512" setting...

I have tested every Eprom on both board and one come back bad.. "EPR-12293" its an intel 27512.

Now this board still has the FD1094 317 chip with a updated battery. Can i just replace the EPR chip with a new one, or try to reprogram the current one? or are they tied to the FD chip?

Interesting. The MAME source shows the MPR (mask ROM) version as twice the size as the EPR/OPR versions (hence 27010 vs 27512).

I forget what the label ID was on the one your originall asked about, and you've deleted the post so I can't look again.

Don't worry about the FD1094. It is not related to the gfx EPROMs, and even it it were, you'd still program the EPROM with the proper code.

8909 mpr-1239 t36..

sorry i deleted it, but since i was able to read and Verify the chips i didn't want to wast anyone time.

So.. is this a chip that can be re flashed/replaced without affecting the suicide battery ?

12339 sorry!
Hmm. The MAME source has the following for that ID:
Code:
ROM_LOAD32_BYTE( "mpr-12339.12", 0x00003, 0x20000, CRC(0d7e3bab) SHA1(fdb603df55785ded593daf591ddd90f8f24e0d47) )
0x20000 is twice the size of a 27512. When you romident it, what does it return, exactly?

Yes. AFAIK, the data (keys) for the encryption of the custom CPU is inside of its packaging. Any/all of the EPROMs can be replaced/reprogrammed/removed without affecting the suicide battery.

Sorry i think there was a misunderstanding. The chip that doesn't Verify against the MAME roms i have is EPR-12293. which when i romident it i get "681b2254 NOT FOUND"

But when i romident a few other roms from the game board it does ID them properly. Guess i need to order a 27512 chip... arcadechips and greatplains do not have them. Any suggestions?

I was only asking about the MPR chips because they don't have any info on what type of eprom it is.

I have no doubt that your bad EPROM, EPR-12293, is a 27512. You can try erasing it and reprogramming if you have an eraser. If you want a new one, I know Bob Roberts and Jameco sell them.

Regarding your "MPR" EPROMs, I still have some doubt as to if they're 27512 or 27010. How many pins do they have?

Apparently there ARE 28-pin, 1-megabit MASK ROMs. (1 megabit EPROMs are all 32-pin).

A couple of type of 28pin mask ROMs are 23C1000 and TC531000. I don't know anything about how to read these with an EPROM programmer...

I'll hope they are all in tip top shape.. and move forward with the one I know is bad.

Thanks..

Just re-verified all EPR and OPR chips with my GQ-4x programmer. They all checkout fine. Have re-seated each chip with DeOx...

here are a few better photos now that it is on my testbed.

does anyone have the manual for this?

I bought a "Bad" Outrun board on ebay. and mix and matched parts and i now have a working Outrun board.

A) Turbo outrun (my original set)
B) Outrun (from ebay)

Used B Rom's from video and CPU boards
Used A Main board
Used B Video board

Funny thing was the B (ebay) board didn't have a FD1094 chip it just had two 6800.s does that mean someone already replaced the FD chip?

And if i have another 6800 to use does anyone know which Rom chips to reprogram from a Mame rom to allow unlocked chip playing?

OutRun didn't have a FD1094, only Turbo OutRun. OutRun had two 68000s. So that's what that means.

And if i have another 6800 to use does anyone know which Rom chips to reprogram from a Mame rom to allow unlocked chip playing?

Not sure I understand the question.
