Got my eye on a working Turbo OutRun. I see its on the suicide battery list. My question is do they all have them? Or is there only a certain number that either have it or not? How can you tell if it has one? Are they easy to replace without damaging the PCB? Where would I find a new battery?

OK, so more like 5 questions. The game looks cool, and priced right, but these suicide batteries have always scared me away. Thoughts?

The Battery is on the CPU, it is not like some of the others that you can change out. I am pretty sure all of the Turbo OutRuns have it, here is a pic:

The Dead Battery Society has a pic of the inside of the chip if you want to see it: http://www.arcadecollecting.com/dead/Hitachi2.jpg

You have the possibility to avoid the battery by burning new roms that are already "decoded" and just placing a plain MC 68000 chip in the socket instead.

Ah Crap... :(
I´m just about to fix the monitor on my European mini upright cab of Turbo Outrun.
The game is running fine and the rom check turns out okey.

If the battery is dead, is the game completely dead or will I get graphics errors etc.?

Gonna search and see if I find the battery tonight.
Got this in a VERY sweet deal together with Super Hang-On from an old arcade shop selling out their old games.

Edit: Just found out from "The Dead Battery Society" that Super Hang-On also got one...
I´m pretty new in this arcade collecting hobby, and I´m already getting a headache about this ;)
