Turbo Outrun pcb - graphics glitch

I have a turbo outrun pcb that I swapped into my Outrun on occasion, but it's always had a graphics glitch with some of the text colors. So this morning I decide I'm going to see if reseating chips would help. Put the board back in the cab and....black and white static on the screen, no sound, not coining up, nothing. :(

I make sure the two boards are connected together securely and try again. Same thing. When looking over the board I notice that there is a cap missing on the top board. It's the one I've circled in red in the attached pic.

Now, I'm not sure if that cap was always missing, or if it somehow snapped off when I was reseating the chips. Could that missing cap be causing the problems, or would that not kill the board like that?

Final note - I don't believe it to be related to the suicide battery, as I have a new segaresurrection.com battery installed on the board.

Are the power LEDs lit on BOTH boards?

Those power connectors that Sega used are crap and will burn their contacts.

Also, what "battery"?

The CPUs on that board look like standard 68K CPUs and the ROMs from the picture all look like standard Sega ROMs by their labels. If you replaced the battery backed custom Sega CPU module you also have to replace the EPROMs that go with them with the segaresurrection.com ERPOMs.

Damn, forgot to mention that the pic is of my regular Outrun board that I just used to show the missing cap since I happened to have a pic of it.

As for the battery, I'm referring to the Hitachi FD1094 chip/battery that was replaced with the Sega Resurrection kit along with the eproms.

I'll plug it in again tomorrow and check to see if the two power LED's are lit.

Well, I got the game running again. I had put two of the EPROMS in the wrong sockets.

So now I'm back to the graphics glitch that you can see in the following pics. The memory test is useless on these boards, but for what it's worth the tested IC's check out okay. But you can see on that memory test screen how bad the text is. Another good example is the screen that shows the shifter/hand graphic which is supposed to say "SEGA 1986", but instead says "SEGA RESS". Could that busted cap be causing problems like this, or do I have bigger board issues?

Sega RESS is normal... "Sega resurrection", he puts that on the game to have it shown that the game has been brought back from the dead. It's similar to how Razoola puts "Phoenix Edition" on the CPS2 games.

As for the issue with the game, Look at the ROMs and RAMs that are used for doing the text generation. Looks like color bits aren't being generated right.

How do I know which ones are used for the text generation? The closest I can see in the manual is the generic OBJECT DATA.

It's going to be difficult to troubleshoot that board since it's a 2 board sandwich. :(
