Hey all,
I have a Capt. at my station that came up to me the other day and asked if the guys (klov-ers) were still into tubes since everyone is going LCD? It got me thinking about that of course I'm sure its been discussed on here since ive been gone. Anyways whats the deal, are LCD's hard to wire into a game? Should I ask him if he has any for sale since he asked or brought it up and they prob are a good buy still to have them? For me I would think that the curvature of a tube is better or at least in my memory the best for arcades. Well I know Betson has stopped selling tubes and they are getting harder to find. Any comments would be good. Thanks.

Yea Frizz thats what i would think, but I have heard some chatter that they are not to bad to wire up and can look good. I agree still not as real as the old tubes. So I guess I should ask this guy if he wants to sale any, huh....Is there anyone still selling tubes with frames that can go into games?

LCD's look like ass with classic arcade titles... completely "unauthentic"...

Yup. Its like watching star wars trilogy prequel (cgi) fighters vs. original star wars trilogy (miniature models) fighters. No comparison.

I wouldn't imagine that wiring up an LCD would be that hard but they just don't look correct on classic games. Or IMO any games that were not originally designed to run on LCD. Personally I have a stock of tubes but if you have access to more useable tubes I would think it would at least be worth looking in to.

LCDs belong on Multis and MAMEs. Not on classics. Tubes, although no longer manufactured for the most part, are still very easy to find. As long as we keep repairing the chassis', there will always be tubes to be had from old TVs and computer monitors and such.

I wouldn't do the disservice of sticking an LCD on my MAME cabs... LCD's are meant for web browsing and watching House...

If he has burn free tubes in standard arcade sizes (13", 19", and 25") then they may be worth you picking up. I don't know that we are at the point of shipping most tubes because they can be scavenged from old TV sets for now but your local collector might appreciate burn free tubes to replace their heavily burned ones.

Thanks for all the input and yes I called him this morning and he said he does have two one 19" and a 25" So I shall see if we can hook up a deal, I already have two 13" for the mini but I guess itd be nice to have the other 19" I dont need anything larger like the 25".
