Did my first tube swap today and here are the results..

Are the different colors in the corners due to my convergance not being dialed in? or do i need to degauss this to get rid of them.

and the picture is also very blurry, how do i adjust that? focus on the flyback?

My first guess is that your purity rings are too close or your yoke not close enough

My yoke is currently right up against the wedges. So you're saying back the wedges off slightly and get the yoke closer to the tube?

Yes, I'd power up the machine and adjust the yoke while watching the picture. Otherwise it will take forever. Just don't touch the coiled wires and you should be fine.

the wedges between the yoke and the tube was positioned properly for the previous tube you had. With the new tube you will need to readjust. Might not need the wedges at all. Or might just need them positioned differently.

Exactly right.

So the attached pictures are after moving the yoke and purity rings in a good 1/2 to 3/4 inch....am i supposed to keep going further? i dont feel safe moving the yoke with the power on becuase the yoke isnt supposed to come in contact with the tube correct? ignore the black wavy lines that my camera produced.

The rings did not need to be moved at all, just the yoke. The rings are too far down the tube now. You should have marked the location of the rings and yoke prior to the swap.

hrm, i am doing something wrong. The purity rings don't do anything for me, if i move them up or down the tube or if i turn them. What am i doing wrong?

There is a "sweet spot" for the rings but your tube looks to me like it may need to be degaussed before continuing. Are you using the rings that came with the TV set or the rings that came with the old tube? You should be using the TV set's rings.

Adjusted the yoke away from the monitor and got a better picture. I just can't get the corners dialed in right. Attached is also a picture of the yoke off the donor tube. I marked the position of the purity rings on that yoke but its all one assembly. You were saying i can just cut the purity ring assembly off of that?

Yes, a few guys on here have done it, as long as there is stil something to clamp the rings in place when you are done. It looks like the grey piece is a clamp so you should be fine. You may need to put a dab of epoxy or glue on the other end of the ring stack when you are done in order to ensure it doesn't slide forward.

It's possible you are using a 90-degree yoke on a 100-degree tube (or vice versa) which would explain why you can't get it "just right". I had something similar happen to me once...

Just seperate the yoke from the rings. It's a pain, but it works. Just glue the rings as told so they don't shift on you. - Barry

Verified both are 90 degree deflection tubes so thats not the problem. I also ordered a degaussing coil. But can someone tell me from the picture if my built in d-coil is connected to the wrong spot? In the image is where it currently sits and was there when i received the game. according the board and manual it should be on the other plug.
