I am going to be using a tube from a 13" TV as a replacement for a 13" WG4900. My question is since I do not have the degauss from the original tube, will the degauss from the TV tube be electronically compatable with the 4900 chassis?

First question is - are you 100% sure the donor tube is a good match?
If it's not you can blow the yoke and chassis to hell.
Secondly - when you transplant the tube the degauss goes with it anyway.

Unless he isn't using the arcade yoke with the chassis, he shouldn't habe to worry about blowing them up.

If your old or new tube doesn't have a degauss coil already, you can move it from one to the other. And if they both have one, you can keep the degauss coils with their tubes, but you'll probably have to change the degauss connector to the chassis....

Not necessarily. The K7000 19" chassis uses a 8 pin newer tube, and is NOT compatible with most late 90's to 2009 degaussing coils in consumer TV sets. They will blow the fuse when powered up with the TV set coil, but if you transfer the original one from the arcade tube that was mated with the chassis then you'll be fine.

I've found other chassis are a bit more lienent with differences in the degaussing coil, and had the most problem with those from 8 pin TV tubes on either the K7000 or the replacement chassis.

I have done the TV tube swap on several chassis with 100% success, but only kept the purity rings with the original tube. The yoke & degauss were matched to the chassis to make sure the impedence stayed the same on the yoke. I have not tried it with the TV tube degauss. I guess I can give it a try and I'll know quickly if it works...or not.

tv tube deg coil will work, they all pretty much the same. good to see you do a yoke swap, lots have tried without , usually with bad results unless its a direct swap in

is there any places online which help determine what 13" tube is good for the different WG models? i have a 7000 that i would like to try to swap, but dont want to chase down too many incompatible tvs.

If you use this chart you can cross reference the tube number for one that uses the CR31 adaptor. This is the adaptor that the 13" K7000 uses. This tube will be compatible with the chassis but you will most likely need to swap the yoke as well.

A Magnavox TV model # RXzzzzzz (where's the z's are numbers) has the right tube. I don't have a pic of it, and can't find it online, but it has the right 8-pin neck. I found one at Goodwill for $12, but didn't take a pic of it before the swap.

I have a friend who has one. I'll see if i can get him to send me a pic...
