I have read about the tube swaps and have a 13" monitor that i want to practice on. What do i need to do to make sure the tube is compatible (after making sure that the correct number of pins are present).??

i would prefer good links or tips. everything i have read is mostly generic and talks about stuff, but without a lot of pics.

thanks

I don't know what specifics you are looking for. Here is a llink to the B&K chart that details what rejuvenator adaptor will fit what tube. This is the first step I follow to identify compatability. I just compare the chassis and what rejuv adaptor it uses with the tube and what it uses. If you don't know what the chassis uses look up the old tube in the chart as well.

Next, I check the tube for internal deflection, though all 13" tubes I have seen are the same (90 degrees I believe) so this step can be skipped.

Next I check the yoke hoping that it matches the yoke of my chassis. If it matches the swap becomes very easy as you don't have to worry abut convergence. If it doesn't match you will have to swap the old yoke as well. Here is write up from Bob Roberts on checking yokes. It is not specificly for this application but the test is the same.

Finally, If I swapped yokes I follow the convergence procedure in the WG manuals:

It is not a difficult operation. The most difficult part is the convergence.

same # of pins, and a hell of a lot of luck lol

In addition to the same NUMBER of pins, make sure the pinout matches. The B&K guide to tubes is an excellent resource. As long as the tube you're replacing also matches that particular adapter you should be okay.

Once I found a TV that had matching pins, and once I had everything hooked up I discovered that it wasn't a compatible tube. Nothing fried or anything - but two of the colors were reversed. IIRC it was a tube compatible with CR-24 instead of CR-23. Of course, you can make an adapter for the input.

ok. so i did a little research on the tubes i have:

tvs:
#1: A34JXV70X53 - per the B&K the heater is a 6.3 and CR/CA is 31
#2: A34AGT13X - per B&K, heater 6.3 and CR/CA is 24 (i have 2 tvs with this model)

monitor tubes:
#1: G07 - 370HEB22 - per B&K, heater is 6.3 and CR/CA is 23
#2: K7000- A34JLL00X11 - per B&K - heater is 6.3 and CR/CA is 31

so, do i look at heater AND CR/CA? if so, then monitor tube#2 can be replaced by tv tube #1 (not looking at yokes yet or anything).

the pinout is the same on all 3 tvs and monitors.

dont i have to check anything with a multimeter? if so, what do i check and what should i look for with the readings matching/not matching?

If you swap yokes, you don't have to do anything with a meter. You can use a meter to measure the yoke readings of the TV to see if it matches the yoke reading of the K7000. If it does, then you don't have to change the yokes. If it doesn't (and it has to be within an ohm or two), then you have to swap the yokes....

Most yokes have four wires coming off of them - typically colored red, blue, green, and yellow (your K7000 will, not sure if the TV's will use the same colors, G07 doesn't).

Horizontal is measured between the red and blue.

Vertical is measured between the green and yellow.

Of course, the G07 is different (as well as having the order of the wires different, too - red, empty, grey, white, brown):

Horizontal is measured between the red and white.

Vertical is measured between the grey and brown.

the pinout is the same on all 3 tvs and monitors.

The pins are in the same locations but the pinouts are not the same. CR31 looks similar to CR23 but it is not the same, it is actually quite smaller. Also, I believe the CR24 has two color guns swapped from the CR23 but this is only hearsay.
