(Hopefully this is in right section. I would think so, since it would help others restore a game, albeit with an aftermarket solution as opposed to NOS. If in wrong section, feel free to move, Mods. Thanks.)

Recently acquired a Rampage. Missing a bezel and the control panel is pretty far gone. Chris gave me a much better metal CP/CPO and suggested I get a good scan of it to share with the group, since apparently the only artwork available for Rampage is the marquee art. I then got a nice glass bezel off of eBay.

Well, I priced having a service bureau scan both pieces. Holy Dear God, it would be like $40 each piece for the raw scans.

Next idea: A well-taken photo with a nice professional big-megapixel SLR camera. Did that last night, a good friend shot many photos of both pieces in his studio, and even though they turned out good looking, when restructured to be actual size, the ppi is only 98... :(

Am I missing any options? I want to get a good image from these before I put them on my machine, but I also really, really want to get these on the machine! :D

Also, making multiple passes (multiple scans) on a regular scanner is not a good or easy solution, trust me. Each scan's colors will be off, and matching/aligning is a friggin nightmare. :(

Thanks in advance for any advice, I'm about ready to give up.

there was a guy here who started a rampage restore and had picked up a NOS rampage overlay - must be the only one to exist!

we asked him if he could scan it for the community and we'd even be willing to share the costs, but he always had excuses and for some unknown reason didn't want to do it :(

here's the thread:

anyway, how's the condition of your overlay? is it good enough to provide a scan which could be used for a repro later on? as far as i know, the bezel isn't the part that most "rampagers" are looking for, it is DEFINITELY the overlay. so if we could get a good scan of it (photos just don't work that well), it would be a blast!

i for me part would gladly share parts of the cost and i hope others are going to jump onboard. however, isn't there a cheaper shop around which could do the job?

let's hope it's going to work out this time ...

Scanning the cabinet and piecing it together is not as much of a pain as you think I scanned my Pac Man cabinet by placing a bar across it and clamping it level, then taking my flatbed scanner and placing it on the bar I scanned and then moved over, then scanned again. I repeated this process for the whole cabinet. The colors don't really matter since you are creating a vectorized image from the scans. Piecing them together was pretty simple as well. Once they are all together I merged them, then did my trace after that. The scanning part only took about 1/2 hour max.

Vectorizing this would be a major PITA... If not impossible. It is a lot of very detailed artwork.

Are you volunteering, though? :D

Actually, he is not the only person with a NOS Rampage CP overlay.

I have been collecting NOS arcade art for over 15 years. I only loan my NOS art to reputable people for reproduction (ie This Old Game, Quarter Arcade, Pheonix Arcade, Gamestencils, etc)

That's in better shape than mine. Mine has a bad corner that could be Photoshop-fixed, but still, that is way more minty-fresh. Any chance of scanning yours? :D
