okay, this is a noob question, but i cannot do it. i drilled the lock out on the backbox and cannot get the glass out? how the heck do i do it? i can shimmy the glass but cannot lift it enough to pull it out. do i need to remove some trim? i hope not because i dont want to have to repair/repaint nail holes when i put it back together.

thanks

Did you drill all the way through the lock or just part of the way through ?

all the way through. i see a little bracket that i was able to move around with a pen, then i dropped out of site (below the lock- but didnt fall or anything). when i look at the top of the backglass (from the outside) i can see a little metal piece at the top corner of each side of the glass. i thought that the metal would have been tied to the bracket mentioned above, but i dont think it is.

On some of those older machines I know the tab mounted to the lock assembly is actually mounted to another assembly that slides front to back and is actually what prevents the glass from being raised in the channel so you can remove it. Maybe if you can try and relocte that tab that fell out of site you can maneuver it around to unlock / slide the mech. Do not know enough about this particular machine to know anymore specifics

wow. thanks for the info.. i couldnt recover teh piece that dropped, but i got the assembly on the lock side out by probing through the lock hole.. on the far end, i used a church key (very carefully) and shimmied the assembly back.

thanks again!

here is a pic of mine..you have to turn the bar so its not against the glass. once thats done it will lift up and out the pic shows it locked it should turn left where the bar goes up

I think Brian has hit it on the head. I drilled mine and the lever fell and it took me quite awhile to get it. Sorry for the bad news but keep at it and you will get it.

as mentioned above, the lever did fall on mine too, but once i knew how it worked, i got it in about 2 minutes with a screwdriver and a church key.
