Trying to figure out why my monitor fried my Double Dragon board

Hey guys, I'm new to the whole, working on arcades and learning as I go but I just made a big mistake. Everything was going good, I have my Double Dragon Board hooked up to my Jamma harness and Power Supply correctly which I tested with a video converter to a regular house hold tv. Everything worked fine.
Now here's where the trouble started. I have a Sanyo 20 EZV that was pulled out of a VS. Dr. Mario, and worked right before I unhooked it. This monitor for some reason also has a standard plug in which Ive never seen. The monitor came out of one of the Vs. machine that has two monitors for two players and the machine had a plug in, in it so you could plug both monitors inside the machine then in ran out to one plug in. I plug the monitor into the wall outlet and it powered on all fine. But when I went to hook the monitor video signal to my Jamma harness and flip switch on the machine then plug the monitor into the wall a section of the board started smoking then caught a flame. Im pretty sure the board is done for now but what I want to know is what I did wrong? Could it be not switching the inversion to "no invert out" or is the video signal hooked up wrong? Im really stumped. Thanks for any help I would really appreciate it.

The monitor from your Vs. Dr. Mario is a 100v Sanyo that requires an isolation transformer. Plugging it into the wall - which is 120v and not isolated - will usually fry the monitor. The plug on the bottom of the Vs. cab is actually isolated through a transformer that steps the 120v down to 100v.

I'm surprised it actually damaged your Double Dragon board. I guess there was some feedback down either the colors, sync, or ground return that was a lot higher voltage than what it expected from a regular 120v isolated monitor....

Yea the monitor still seems fine but the Board went up in flames around the R16, R15, R14 if that ,means anything. Im not sure what to do at this point, if anything

I doubt the monitor is still good. have you tried it back in the Dr Mario?

Replace the burnt parts on the DD board and hope it works...

Nintendo monitors operate on 100 volts AC ISOLATED. So you need a step down isolation transformer.

You big mistake was plugging in the monitor into a wall outlet. There's a good chance your monitor is also damaged.

Get thee to the Real Bob Roberts' website. Order the $12.00 isolation transformer.

If you need a spare Double Dragon board for parts, let me know, I have a set of donor boards for you.

Did you unplug the JAMMA harness or anything prior to hooking it up to the Sanyo monitor?
Like maybe plugged the JAMMA harness back in backwards or something? (if your harness isn't keyed it could easily happen)

That was the first thing I checked but it was plugged in correctly. that's why I didn't get how the monitor which was only connected to the PCB via Video signal, fried it. The monitor wasn't even connected to the Power Supply! The board ran fine until I plug the monitor into the wall and that's when sparks flew and flame appeared. I wasn't sure if maybe I just hook the video signal up wrong if that would have anything to do with it.

Been there. Done that. It's funny not having a 12 dollar part can cause a couple hundred in damage. I laugh at myself now, but wasn't funny then. multiboard and monitor=toast

Yea, I kick my self now for sure. It was hard for me to find a Double Dragon PCB under 40 bucks. If anyone has a Step down Transformer or knows where I can get one I would appreciate it.
