Trying to complete a Tron mini before the new movie...

So, I got myself a TRON cabaret during the summertime. I got it working pretty well, with the exception of the sound; it's a little problematic (and, if anyone has working / refurbished sound parts, please LMK). But, nice clean picture, good controls, board works, even still saving initials. Cabinet has a horse kick in it, but still very solid, no water damage. Not bad.

Could be better, though...

And this...

...and other things, like a non-functional coin door, cracked back monitor bubble, serious flaking on the marquee, little cosmetic touches.

I tried to source some of this parts through KLOV and other places. After all, it'd be nice to have it looking good in time for my TRON party with my friends. But, as the summer wore on, that seemed unlikely. Everyone wanted too much $$ for the parts, and not all of them were in good shape.

But, there was a slim chance of something good. A guy I once bought a game from mentioned that he *thought* he might have an incomplete TRON mini sitting in a warehouse. No boards, and a bad cabinet...but otherwise complete. So, I told him to get in touch with me once he found it. Maybe I'd get lucky and be able to pull some useful cosmetic stuff from it.

So, I waited.

And waited.

And waited.

Emailed him 2 months ago. Heard nothing.

Last night, he emails me: "Hey - I found it. Still interested? $200, and I'll deliver it."

Great! $200 for a whole machine is better than $200 for, say, a monitor glass.

The cabinet is pretty thrashed. But what sort of shape are the parts in?

I needed a better monitor glass:

No scratches, no paint loss - just dirt!

How about a CP?

All there! (What's the best way to remove this latex paint spray from the CP & plastics?)

And can we have a marquee with no paint loss?

We can!

Plus, a non-cracked plastic bubble for the monitor, and a complete harness for my coin door. All in the nick of time.

My lesson learned: be patient rather than overpay for parts. :D

Good job, you'll probably even be able to put your old parts in the other cab and sell it to make at least a little of your $200 back. Or buy a set of boards and sell it as working but in rough shape. At the rate TRONs are going for, you might even come out ahead.

*scratches chin*

Hmmm...interesting idea.
