The joystick does not allow ms pacman to go up or down on the screen. Occasionally it works but not often. I have little to no experience fixing arcade games and therefore have no tools. I would be willing to buy the required tools if they were reasonably priced. I am in the Spokane area if anyone knows of someone who repairs games in the area let me know.

Check either the leaf switches, which may be worn out or bent, or check the wiring to the molex connector, which could be making poor contact. If it works here and there, i think its more the leaf switches than anything.

You may be lucky because either the leaf switches are out of adjustment or simply dirty by your explanation. My guess is dirty since they are intermittent but I have also seen out of adjustment give the same indication.

If they are dirty get a business card and place it between the two contacts on each switch. Pull the joystick to pinch the card and slowly pull the card out of the contacts. This cleans off some of the carbon and oxides that grow on the metal for the contacts. Out of adjsutment is easy to. Pull the joystick the direction you want to test and look to ensure that the contacts are touching and releasing properly. If not take a pair of needle nose and GENTLY bend the leaf in the direction to make them touch or make them release properly.

Also make sure that your wiring is not loose to the leaf switches.
