Trouble using Compact Flash drive with Golden Tee Complete

I attempted to clone the IDE hard drive in my Golden Tee Fore Complete to a Compact Flash card (with CF to IDE adapter).

The machine boots and passes the 3 hard drive file system checks but then stalls on the modem check. Once I go back to the stock IDE drive, the game loads fine (so there is no modem issue).

I used Acronis Home Edition 2011 (Windows) to take the disk image from my stock IDE drive and did a 1:1 clone.

Anyone have any idea what went wrong or have any suggestions on how I can get this to run on a CF card?

Thanks.

I ran into the same exact issue trying to convert to a CF (I also tried a Kingston 16GB) on my GT Complete. You need the 2.09 boot ROM first (yours is a 2.01 according to your pic). I then tried using CHDMAN to clone my working hard drive to a CF card. It booted the first time but then almost immediately crashed. Afterwards when the system tried to start, the loading screen displayed a line showing "ITS Tournament Kit" instead of "ITS Tournament Board" and would bootloop. I ended up using a laptop drive in the meantime due to quick spin-up and low noise.

Cool thanks for the feedback. I'll try another hard drive for now just to make sure my image is okay (and if not, I'll try using CHDMAN). My main goal is to make sure I'm covered if the original drive fails. I was hoping for a drive with no moving parts (hence the CF card), which should in theory last longer.

I also forgot to mention the newer boot ROM is necessary for the game to recognize hard drives bigger than a certain capacity (I guess 16GB or 32GB).

Pretty sure 2.09 is necessary for 20gb or larger drivers and/or if using a compact flash replacement.

Yes you need the Eagle 2.09 to run from Compact Flash, also Kingston CF cards are garbage. Try a 8Gb transcend 133x

Just want to verify that an 8GB flash card will hold the extracted image? I don't want to attempt with an 8GB if it will be too small and I'll end up having to get a 16GB afterall.

Can anyone confirm?

OK, so I pulled out a new 8GB SD card and tried to write my Golden Tee Fore! Complete .chd image I made in chdman. Each time I try to extract the image to the SD card, I get the following error in chdman:

"Error writing to file; check disk space <\\.\PHYSICALDRIVE2>"

I didn't have any trouble creating the image from my hard drive in chdman, but I'm kinda stuck here now.

FYI, I am using chdman 0.146 and am following the guidelines from here:

Any advice would be appreciated.

Use -f after the command and make sure you remove any partitions on the disk do its a Emory raw disk. Or get a version of chdman that is less than .145
You will still get an error when it's done , the game is 7.5gb, but the image you have maybe be from a bigger drive so it still runs the Chdman filling empty space

Just thought I'd chime in here. I successfully managed to get my GT Complete to boot of CF card with boot rom 1.06. The trick is to hook up an empty CD-Rom drive to the secondary IDE channel and set the jumper on the drive to cable select mode. It will try and boot off of the CD drive first and fail then will proceed to boot off of the CF card.

That being said, if anyone is selling Eagle 2.09 ROMs I'd be interested in buying one if the price is right so i can remove the CD drive, or in my case its a DVD Burner i had laying around. :)

I am still trying to figure out the best way to remove the extra (blank) space from my image in order for it to fit on to an 8GB CF card... I've got the image, but it is too big in the normal state to fit onto the CF. I need to try some type of editing software to cut out the unneeded space as soon as I have time.

I got an Eagle 2.09 Eprom from another collector. If you need that info. PM me and I can put you in touch.

Don't worry about the extra space.
Use CHDMAN to clone the image to a RAW unformatted Flash card. Towards the end it will fail, but no big deal as it has copied the files needed. Exit out of CHDMAN then plug into your game. it should work.
