Tron3 (aka, Tron: Ares) gets the green light.

A Youtube whore? That comment is completely unecessary. NONE of us have seen the movie yet, but there's enough info and trailers to base an opinon on. You yourself have some doubts about it, right? Given Disney's recent track record with Star Wars (not to mention their own legacy properties like Snow White), we ALL should have some doubts. But unlike with Tron and Tron: Legacy, I won't be going to see Ares in the theater or paying to stream it unless it pulls one helluva rabbit out of its hat to convince me otherwise.

FWIW ... while semi-ambiguous, I do believe he was calling the YOUTUBE guy you linked a youtube whore... and not you.

I have enjoyed films other people think suck and vice versa.
I am highly unlikely to think less of a person who has a differing opinion on a film.
That said, I can't say Disney's recent track record has me hopeful about thos one.
They have absolutely ruined a few of my favorite franchises.
I will be happy to be surprised though!

Same here. I like my share of cult films, and Tron is one of them. And I've already mentioned I don't care much for Leto's method acting, so I already wasn't going to spend money on any movie he's headlining. All the recent accusations about him (from no less than 9 women) should make anybody seriously think hard about paying money to support someone like that. Leto was the principle person involved with getting this movie done, and the script was rewritten to make him the star (who's character is supposed to be a 'perfect program'. Yeah, you can't buy irony like that). And as you said, Disney decided to go full steam ahead in light of Leto's legal and moral issues - https://www.theguardian.com/film/2025/jun/07/jared-leto-accused-sexual-impropriety

Tron: Ares could be the best movie of 2025. It could be the best movie of all time. It could feature a soundtrack by my favorite band. I would still treat it the same way, which is, not 1 cent am I paying for a movie starring someone like that, or for a company promoting someone like that. Disney lost me as a fan when they ruined Star Wars, and as you can imagine, Tron: Ares isn't changing that for me, either. I'm exercising apparently one of the few rights I have left - I vote with my wallet.

It's funny how revisionist history hits.. tron ares started production Jan 2024. Jared Leto allegations hit June 2025. Film was in the can. So you want the studio to eat a 180 million Loss? Personally I am grateful Jared was able to get the movie made.i will watch it and enjoy it for what it is.

I am not following Jared's issues. But that's what courts are for. It does not change his current or past work. I think he is a fine actor. It does not invalidate his work. Just like Mel Gibson and Kevin spacey. They did excellent work before their troubles. If the public wants to cancel them, that's their choice. Should we remove all the Tony Curtis and rock Hudson work from history too?

I think the Harvey Weinstein situation is far different as he was using his power to get women. But age of consent is as low as 14 in Europe. Jerry Lee Lewis married his cousin at 13 and Elvis was dating prescilla at 14. I am sure there are others. It does not hurt our current president…

Bill, read my post again because that's not what I'm saying. I'm saying I'm not financially supporting someone like that. You think Disney can't afford to eat 180 million? Studios do that all the time. Warner ate their investment on Batgirl. How much did Disney waste on the new Snow White, considering the reputation that star has? When Leto has his day in court, you don't think there won't be a trickle down effect? What's 180m to a studio that paid billions for companies like Lucasfilm and Marvel? Is 180m worth all the controversy being associated with someone like Leto? If Ares is a smash hit that pulls in a half billion, then Disney won't care... at least in the short term. But Tron has never been a billion dollar property. Legacy made 400m, and that wasn't enough for Disney to care about making a sequel, for 15 years. After this weekend, we'll have a full picture of what Ares is going to do, because the number of reviews online will quadruple, and they're not good now. The one positive to Ares being out is, if you're looking to sell a Tron machine, now is the best time :)

My wife raised a good point: Disney yanked Johnny Depp about his issues from POC, and then had to send him an apology letter. Maybe they were afraid to relive that. Who knows.

I've been reading some Rotten Tomatoes reviews, which is probably a big mistake. I don't know what planet some of these critics are on. The one without any sense of wonder or fun, I guess. Just completely dismissive. Even the positive reviews are sucky! "Passable entertainment" one guy says. I had the time of my life with this movie, was on the edge of my seat, liked it way more than Legacy.

The worst thing about it was sitting through the usual 1/2 hour of trailers! Note to self: arrive at theater 1/2 hour after stated showtime.

glad you liked it.. I am sure its cancel culture at work. those critics were probably not born when the 1st movie came out. maybe never even have seen it.. afraid to admit they liked it.

leto was on fallon last night and spoke about seeing the original in the theater back in the day.. he said he was so jacked to work with the dude, he had to stop filming the first scene as he could not stop smiling.

I saw it In IMAX yesterday. I didn't LOVE it, but I LIKED it a lot. The soundtrack was better than I expected, as I'm not a NIN fan. I'll be ordering it. I'm not a Leto fan, but I don't think he did a bad job at alI. A sequel was set-up and I think most will like the direction it's set-up for. While I would have liked a direct sequel, the tie-ins with prior movies was done well. I'm sure there will be some who will bitch about that. My initial concerns revolved around it not being a direct sequel, not having returning stars, NIN, and Leto. The trailer made me worry it was going to be Tron style alien invasion. None of those concerns really panned out for me. It can't be ignored that it sounds like the movie wouldn't have even gotten made if it wasn't for Leto.

There was ONE thing they did (or didn't do) that I was REALLY disappointed in, but I'll save that for after it's been out a while. People here will mention it. But only us collectors will take issue of it. I can't hate the movie as a result.

The haters will hate because their media tells them to and they're addicted to their selective outrage, culture wars, and confirmation bias. We always find what we're looking for in things.

I really want to like this movie. I love the first two. I just can't get past Leto. Not even because of the allegations particularly. There's just something about him that is extremely unlikeable to me. If he wasn't the lead I'd probably get off my butt and watch this Friday or Saturday in the theater.
