Tron3 (aka, Tron: Ares) gets the green light.

I wish they would've shown it in 3-D at my local theater. 10-12 years ago it seemed like every movie was being shown in 3-D. Now they hardly show any of them that way.

I really didn't like the antagonist chick, she seemed way too Wakanda-ish. I don't wanna get too political, but the wokeness factor was in full effect. I know it's not popular opinion, but I would've felt far more threatened with a big, tough, muscular and weaponized 8-foot tall cyber dude chasing Jared than the head of the Black Panther's royal guard.
Man, say what you really mean.

This movie was kinda "the one that got away" for me.

I've been too busy this last week on a current Netflix production to get time to go see it but very early on in preproduction Josh and I were talking with a colleague of ours (who we worked with on TLOU, and worked on Legacy) to go out to Vancouver to work on Ares. Sadly the writers/actors strike put a knife in that and we didn't end up making it happen when they got going again.

Later down the road after they wrapped filming we ended up working with the props team as the 24fps Playback Supervisors on an upcoming JonBenét Ramsey, Paramount+ Project. One of them noticed the Encom sticker on the back of my car and they found out that we were huge fans of the series/the "arcade film guys" in Calgary and gave us a few of the tokens they had minted up. They're the gold ones on the left next to the silver ones i have from Disneyland.

Regardless of how it turns out being perceived, it would have been nice to have that one on my IMDB. :) ah well.

I liked it because it was a Tron movie, but it was a distant 3rd in the series after 1 and 2. For me, it suffered from the same thing that Jurassic Park sequels suffered from. Programs, like dinosaurs, are not nearly as scary in the grand scheme of things when they are off the island (or grid). The grid makes Tron. The island(s) make Jurassic Park. Bring them to the mainland and they lose a lot of luster. The military could easily take down a T-Rex just like a single plane took down the Recognizer. I get it's way cheaper to film in the real world, but you lose a lot with these movies. That and the fact that it was so loosely tied to the last two. These movies are nostalgia, you can't remove that and replace it with Jered Leto and expect the people to show up in droves. Sadly after the public has spoken with their wallets, I expect this to be the end of Tron movies.

Finally made it out to the theater tonight.
Less campy than the last one, but still kinda meh.
Jeff Bridges was just cringey in the last one -- "Biological jazz man!"

It's about what I expect from Disney.

Over the top CGI.
Men are evil -- women are good and smarter and win in the end.
Korean protagonists for the Asian markets.

Reznor's music was good, but the songs didn't really stick.

1st gave us Cindy Morgan
2nd gave us Olivia Wilde
Who was supposed to be the hot chick in this one?

Edit:
...and no, I didn't recognize Scully until the credits rolled...

Now industry experts are branding the 53-year-old actor as box office poison.

Box office poison?
Jared Leto?

I honestly thought Jared did great in this movie. To be honest with you I couldn't tell you a single movie I saw him in until now. My last two memories of him were as the brooding-but-hot love interest in My so-called life and when he came to my area with his band 30 Seconds to Mars. I don't remember any of his set, but I do remember he opened for Sevendust and the band Cinder went on before him. I remember Cinder's song 'Soul Creation' being a fuck banger and I remember that Lijon Witherspoon's brother was shot and killed just before Sevendust went on stage yet they still played the show after the announcement. I think if you look it up, you can even find that information on Wikipedia.

I don't hate Leto for any particular reason (unless he's proven guilty of being the scumbag he's accused of being it seems)...

I thought he did a good job. I actually enjoyed 3 more than 2...

I would have rather seen more of the film in the grid of course, but hey... it turned out better than I expected.

I haven't seen the movie. I decided not to bother with it. I think the actor is fine.
I think Legacy was great and don't care that the CG wasn't perfect in that one.
But for this new one, the Hollywood writers don't have the talent they used to have. I feel they just became complacent once they won their terms for the last big strike.
After the amazing run of about 2008 to 2022 of the superhero genre, the rest now is just about making money and hence remakes take priority
for a lot of movie franchises. They are very few original ideas left in the English language. I don't understand why they don't properly beta test some of these movies before releasing them. I know it's hard to keep things under NDA but why risk a movie bomb for $200 million plus investments.

FWIW...

The original TRON has 60 / 69 at Rottentomatoes.com ...

TRON Legacy has 51 / 64 ... seems the critics and people both liked it less than the original...

TRON Aries currently has 53 / 85...

It seems the critics still don't much like Tron... but the people seem to like this one better than both the original and the sequel.

I think you're selling any film short by critiquing it without actually viewing it.

In all fairness, without seeing the movie, how can you make this determination?
Well, I saw small parts of it here and there in reviews and such and I was reading this thread all along - which pretty much sums it up as bad. And it has bombed at the box office.

Hey if you guys enjoyed it, good. Hopefully you paid a ticket/fee to watch it and not some sort of online rip. But this movie is a loss for the company for sure and may hurt the Legacy overall.

Damn, I must be way off. I had to stop myself from seeing it yet again last night - the final 3D showings in my area. Hard to believe people here are talking about not seeing a Tron movie. I've been pushing my friends out the door to go see it! (Mostly hasn't worked.)

Tron bombed at the box office.

Tron: Legacy ... not quite, but was close to bombing at the box office. By all accounts, the box office tally was disappointing.

I think LOTS of people are waiting for digital on this one. Today ... I prefer digital/home viewing to the theater myself... and it seems more and more people do too.

We all know that ticket sales <> good movie. Just sayin'...

You should watch it. Or not. But commenting about how bad a movie is (or even how awesome) you've not seen isn't the best of looks...

Just my opinion. Peace.

Guys, I'm not criticizing anyone for liking the movie or liking the actor.
Maybe I'll watch it in spite of the above post of mine when it comes out on digital.

Forgetting about the movies, I hope those who own a Tron machine enjoy a few good games today!

To those reading said opinion it typically does. No one wants to waste time on baseless opinions. Right? Not end of world stuff, of course... but again, not the best of looks (that's all I was sayin...)

So.... you're going to go around and validate and certify everybody's opinions? Not sure I see the point of doing that, but... that's just my opinion.
