Tron3 (aka, Tron: Ares) gets the green light.

A good story well told will always be a winner at this point.
The key to having a successful sequel will always be simply NOT tarnishing the luster of the original by straying too far without justification or just rehashing and not adding to the story.
Constant progress in effects will always make it such that outdoing the previous installments of a sci-fi or fantasy franchise is easy so if somebody blows it with a sequel they had to REALLY screw the pooch.

You would think these Hollywood clowns would've sorted this all out by now.

You guys are pretty tough on it. It's just a movie. I bet most of the kids love it. I am not really one for going to the flicks anymore, but if I was 12 I would probably be excited to see it.
I will probably see it eventually.

I think the second TRON did a fair job, without going the "Avenger-ize" route.

This one? I'm not so sure.

I agree with you to a certain extent but at the end of the day positive hype for a movie is what sells the movie to the masses. This movie along with many other sequels and what not simply don't have the hype behind them to get people out to the theaters to watch it.

Yeah, most of it is hype nowadays, But the movie business aint what it was either, In the old days a lot of it was Word of mouth to sell a film. So your friends would see it opening weekend, and if it was good, they would probably brag about it to everyone they were chatting with. Then 3 weeks latter it would hit huge at the theatre. Nowadays most movies are toast after 10 days. So???

I just saw it today and thought it was incredible! Immensely entertaining. Gave me everything I was hoping for and then some. Big thumbs up. :)

Catch it in 3D if you can...
I saw it in IMAX 3D yesterday. Absolutely incredible. I only wish the scenes didn't move so quickly from shot to shot. There is so much visual richness that's it's hard to take it all in in such a short amount of time. The ENCOM office was packed with easter eggs that I'll definitely be watching on pause so I can check them all out. My favorite part was the retro grid scene. Just gorgeous, gave me goosebumps. Might go see it for a 2nd time this weekend.

Glad to see the KLOV community, for the most part, like the flick.
I'll probably wait till it comes out on BR/4K. I'm sure I'll enjoy it too. Should be a fun ride. :)

Yeah, if Tron Ares had come out in the 80s, people would have gone NUTS over it. We've become pretty spoiled over the years, but also jaded by the multitude of cash-grab sequels that have tarnished many a franchise.

All too sadly true.

"How much can we milk out of THIS?"

Originality? Why do that, when I can make another Superhero movie and make guaranteed bank?

Then again, Arcade games....

Asteroids -> Asteroids Deluxe

Mortal Combat -> Mortal Combat II -> Mortal Combat III -> Mortal Combat IV

Yeah, considering that Athena is the Greek goddess of war, Disney's casting wasn't the most logical. Then again, neither was a 5'11", 148lb soyboy for the Greek God of War...

Maybe I'm misunderstanding the point of this comment, but if we're going down that rabbit hole, does the physical projected size of a program really matter in the real world when they're AI programs from the digital world with abilities that already seem to be superhuman? Things don't appear to be translated on a 1:1 scale so I don't understand the argument with regards to human size.

Super Sark in the first Tron was intimidating because he represented the MCP's power and both him and Tron were on the same "playing field" (in the grid.)

So a good friend of mine & his two sons went to see it the other night. I was all "it's great" and "you gotta see it." Turns out they didn't like it. My friend thought it was boring. Boring!? My god. It's the least boring of the three movies imo.

I know they're nowhere near the Tron fan that I am, and that they didn't see it in 3D. And although my friend would deny it, I think their eyes were closed the whole time!

Saw it Friday in IMAX and 3D, the visuals were outstanding! The story... not so sure. I was kind of confused about some of the characters and where they came from. I totally geeked out with the vintage grid scenes, and the ending was really good. So it was pretty good, but parts of it were awesome. I might see it again, I'll for sure be buying it on bluray. I only hope they release it in 3D and that I don't have to buy a new 4K projector! LOL.

I told him that even though he's wrong about the movie, we can still be friends! 🙃 He did say that one of his kids liked it. 🤩

Looks like tomorrow is the final day to see it in 3D in my area. Kind of amazing that movies only stick around for two weeks anymore. Seems to be unrelated to quality or popularity. Just get em in, get em out!

EDIT: Just checked the listings again. It's still here next week, but very few showtimes. And only in 3D, not 2D.
