Picked up Tron the other day. Worked for about a day, now when I turn it on I get the below video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5v-IVu66Uus

Any thoughts? Also, possibly related is that the monitor has now started making a clicking sound - almost like a gas grill starter trying to light. best description I could come up with...

Thanks!

When the game starts up you get various self-test patterns. It looks like the CPU is constantly resetting; that video loops every 2 or 3 seconds. If you just got the game it's possible that it hasn't been serviced in 30 years.

What causes resets? Bad power, bad gameboard, or both. Check voltages from the power supply (schematic) and consider rebuilding with a kit of the most commonly-failed parts (info, kit). Check the interboard ribbon cables (info). Beyond that it gets a little tricky. It's one of my least favorite games to service because 3-board stack and all of the connectors can really make life difficult.

Watch for any electrical sparking. That could be bad. There are portions of the screen that operate between 13,000v and 19,000v. But it's surely a separate issue since a monitor is just a display; it can't cause a gameboard to reset.

Hopefully you have another klov member with a Tron who lives close to you. That will allow you to try your pcb in a different cabinet. By doing this, it would eliminate either a power supply issues or a pcb issues.

mainly looks to me like the power supply is not putting out enough voltage to get the game to fully boot. My guess is if you rebuild the linear PS board or replace it with a switcher your game will boot. Although it's possible simply adjusting the voltages on the original linear power supply might do the trick.

Well I feel like a complete idiot. Slam switch was stuck...

That was causing a continual reset.. Thanks everyone. I do appreciate it.
