Tron & Tron LE pinball owners: Are you having this problem?

I am seeing some dimples on my Tron LE. Nothing like your pics.
I also have some dimples on my IM as there were massive air balls due to the monger lit not sitting flush with the pf.
My SM doesn't show any dimples that I noticed and looks the best out of the 3 Sterns that I have.

Can you post some pictures with a reflection? Anyone else on here that can post pictures, there has to be like 30 of you that bought Tron: LE :)

Bump for my friend.

Ah, sorry. I don't have any overhead lights so I'm not sure the pics will show any reflection. The flash from the camera may not show any dimples. I'll try anyway.

Any light source would work that is bright enough. Have a shop light? That would work too.

hope those help. i snapped 'em real quick with my phone.

oh, and i have 309 plays as of this morning.

Thanks for the photos. I tried this same angle on my game and the dimples/indentations aren't really visible in the photo. You probably need to be above it and get some reflection from a ceiling light to show the surface in that Recognizer area.

That is some SERIOUS "fish eye- ing". It is caused when the clearcoat is not the proper viscosity, and applied incorectly.

Fisheye is caused by oils on the surface when applying the clear coat. It would be visible when the clear was shot, not just after 190 games.

I would be so mad if this were me too!

Have you sent pics to Stern, not just called?

I would also take the ball and drop it in that area. If it dimples, then of course you know it's the wood. There's no way clear coat alone would stop dimples, its the soft wood under it that let this happen. A cars clear coat is paper thin, no way in Sterns cost cutting would a pin have a lot more then a car.

My 1987 pin has a ball drop of about 4-5 inches and a piece of mylar under the drop zone. To this day there are no dimples in that area.

I read about this on RGP once and a new Indiana Jones with acessive ball wear around the PF holes. The person ended up getting a new PF sent to them.

In the end all I can say is this is seems like yet another cost cutting move on Sterns part or blame the lack of quality control on materials used. I will never buy new because of this until quality comes back.

To me, quality really suffered for Stern after SM was made.

Stern playfields ALWAYS dimple (but not like the OP pics). Look at a LOTR, TSPP, SM, some of the more played titles - the wood they use is "cheaper". Even the cabinet wood is flimsy - i've drilled for 4 or 5 Shakers and am lucky to get away with 3 of the 4 holes surviving / not flaking apart.

** For the record, so did Williams games - i had a TZ that looked like the surface of the moon.

Yet, i still buy them - the game play cant be beat, and electronically they are solid and very reliable. I have yet to read "My LOTR stopped working" (one of the "older" more popular games).

As for the playfield posted here, something is wrong / abnormal with it. As noted on RGP, i took pics / closer look at mine (bad pictures though - sorry) - and no dimples / holes after 100 plays. I would be VERY surprised if Stern didnt back up that PF after an analysis is performed.

Sorry, but I can't get a good pic as I don't have any overhead lights or portable lights. Mine doesn't look anything like your friends pf with all those dimples.

The Tron LE at Gable House bowl in Torrance, CA was brand new when I played it today and the rubber from the spinning disc shot off onto the playfield. Lousy glue job I guess. Luckily the op showed up and removed the rubber disc.

New problem. The pin is resetting in the middle of gameplay. The flippers die and the end of ball bonus is awarded, all while play is in action. Arrgg!!

Gable House in Torrance? I grew up just a few blocks from there! Good to hear they have an LE there, many other pins?

Which parts did they send, what is causing the issue?

Jerry

When I called Stern and mentioned the issue they said it was a optical switch problem so they are sending me new switches #21 and #22 and a small board they said it should clear the problem. They also said this is intermitten and hard to see during diagnostics.

Here is a playfield picture of my IM. NIB, about a year old, 1780 plays. This is the best picture I could get (If it helps your case, I can try for better). I think the picture makes it look worse than it is, but I do have "Dents" in the playfield, primarily around the Iron Monger. I attribute it to the ball as there can be some wild balls on this game. I did drop a ball from about 4 inches off the playfield and it did leave a mark.

Not sure if this helps your case at all...

Chris
