So, my wife found out that a friend of a friend at work was looking to get rid of a Tron arcade game. Turns out this lady's husband had passed away from cancer and she's just looking to clean out the house of his stuff. My wife and I stopped by on Saturday to take a look at the arcade game. My wife thought it was a Discs of Tron, but it was just a regular Tron. I don't really need a Tron, but might consider keeping one for the right price. I also don't want to totally lowball her as that just wouldn't be right considering her situation.
So I get there and the game is in average condition. For some reason the feet are missing. There's a binder with a photocopied manual on top of the game; I look through it briefly, seeing a few notes, emails, rgvac faq printed out, repair numbers on sticky notes, etc.
I boot the game up and it comes up, but I can hear some weird clicking so I'm fairly sure before I start the game that the audio will be out. Yep, game plays but no audio. Cabinet is in fairly standard Tron condition (sideart worn, artwork cracking, a little rough), but working otherwise minus the sound.
I tell her that I sold a game in about this condition working a few years ago, but mentioned that this game isn't completely working, so I gave her a price below what I was planning to offer. She's just happy to get the game out of the garage, so I load it up and take it home.
Today I started cleaning up the garage, found the binder that came with the game and was about to start transfering the photocopy of the manual from the binder to my manilla folder file cabinet. I opened the binder and found a few emails and print outs, thinking "wouldn't it be funny to find a copy of my MCR faq in here".
Well, I didn't find a copy of the MCR faq; what I found were copies of emails from the original seller.
Emails from me.
Yes, this was the same Tron that I had sold 16 years ago!
Not only that, but I paid the exact same price that I sold it for 16 years ago!
