Curious to know if it is possible to remove the tron shroud plexi backglass from a restored shroud without damaging the new art or the actual plastic of the shroud. My shroud is in mint shape...but there is a small 3/8" crack right in the bottom middle of the plexi and it is bugging the hell out of me. I have another perfect piece of plexi taken off a damaged shroud and would love to replace the cracked one on my current shroud. But i noticed that the plexi is literally "melted"..or so it seems...to the shroud. Any advice or am i just going to have to live with it?? Thanks in advance for any advice!!

from memory I think it's glued and not melted but I could be wrong or there could have been differences during production. I never tried this because I found a very nice original shroud but I always thought the clear plexi could likely be removed with a razor blade and patience.

I have one I need to remove as well. I was thinking of hitting the glued area with a belt sander until the plexi was pretty thin then using a razor knife to scrape the glue...

That's not a bad idea...but I don't have a belt sander...:/. Any other ideas?

DO NOT use a belt sander lol. I tried removing one of these a while back and completely hosed up the shroud around the plexi. So even after doing so, I decided to see what it'd take to remove the damn thing without damaging the shroud. Heat gun, Goo Gone, sander, gentle prying...none of them worked. That thing is seriously on there. For my replacement shroud, I just left it in, minor cracks and all.

The problem seems to be that the adhesive they use nearly fuses the shroud and plexi plastics together. I may be wrong, but that's how it appears.

The glue on there is ridiculous ...why did they have to do that? A few drops on each corner would have been enough? What's the point of fusing the damn thing on there? So if i want a mint shroud...I will just have to buy one from someone....:/

So i got another tron on sat...and this one has 4 cracks in the Plexiglas! I really need to know how yo safely remove this damn Plexiglas. I got a perfect one just sitting on my shelf. Any other advice...please!!

If you don't want to save the clear plexi. I have used a grinder to remove one before, and it works well. Then replace it with a new piece of Mylar (better to resist scratching). Most plastic places can bend the plexi/mylar if you cannot.

OK..after reading all of these problems...why not make a HOT MELT Wire Cutter and Kinda Cut the Glue area or maybe a Heated Metal Scraper or something that will melt thru the 2 pieces of plastic or allow you to kinda heat cut them apart...

only thing that comes to mind about this...but knowing me i'll think of Something Better :D

Thats All i Got Right Now.

END OF LINE.

Daniel.

I got it off...used a grinding tool on my Dremel and took it off very slowly...took me two days on and off. Need to go slow because the shroud will get too hot and start warping...as I found out....very little...but I felt it right away and was able to stop it. Biggest thing is move around and not work on one area too long or above will happen.
