I just replaced my ribbon cables on my Tron boards and now I am noticing "noise" when playing the game coming through the speakers....

Anyone have suggestions on how to make that better? I didn't have the issue with the old crumbling cables....

btw..might this have something to do with a ground? I'm posting another question around the yellow ground cable and what things in the cabinet it should be attached to...

I'm sorry to answer you with no help and a question, `cause I'm just getting familiar with Tron myself :) but where did you get your new ribbon cables from, and is it simply a matter of pulling the old ones off, and sliding the new ones on?

I bought them from Bob Roberts (www.therealbobroberts.net/)

They are different than the originals in that each cable acts as 2 cables (two rows on the connectors)....Bob has a page on this explaining how to use them properly...

Beyond ensuring you use them correctly, it is basically that you remove a cable and put a new one on....I made the mistake of missing a pin and it messed me up...

I hope that helps!

What kind of noise is it? Is it static, or is it a hum? Did you try wiggling the audio cable where it plugs into the board stack? I've seen those connectors go bad before. Are you using the original power supply, or a switcher?

Did you power on the game with the cable one pin off on the orientation- the whole connector moved one position to the side? That may have damaged something if it's the case and the cable may not be the problem at all.

I did power it on with one of the ribbon cables not seated correctly, which caused the white screen. Once I put the cable on correctly and repowered the boards, the game played correctly....

I hope I didn't damage anything...like I said it plays correctly..the only "new" issue is the white noise I'm hearing which goes away if I turn down the sound a bit, but then the game sound is low....

So I'll need to re-listen to it...but it just seemed like "white noise" or static mixed in with the game sound. I'll need to try wiggling the audio cable...(any pointers as to which that is on the boards..I have a feeling I know which one though)....

I am using the original power supply....

Again, I didn't notice the noise until I replaced the ribbon cables..but you figure I had to disconnect the boards to do this so reseating things may have done this..
