I know this is a sore subject with alot of people on here who got screwed on the neon/Led recognizer signs, but i did draw up a version for El wire. Here's the original animated Gif from the orginal thread:

and here's what i have drawn up on my software

recognizer.jpg

these will be done in black melamine, slotted edge for T-molding and the recognizers cut in 1/8 wide, for 1/8 el wire. Doesn't include anything but the bare sign, measures 30.5 wide X 25.75 Tall. Price is 50.00 + shipping. I know the shipping will be a little pricey due to size/weight, so i made the sign price as low as i can. i usually cut all my signs from leftover melamine i have laying around, the size of these means i'll have to cut them out of full sheets.

just reply here if you want one, and PM me your address for usps shipping. Thanks!

EDIT: just realized i forgot the squares on the sides! redrawing...

no, but Phet has made some El wire signs, using my wooden signs. I'm sure he'll post up a few pics if he sees this!

I've worked with it a bit as well. Not making signs but making my game room mural. I'm working on my first sign with some of the EL tape. It's pretty easy to work with.

got an order for 1, would like to get 2 more so i can just cut a full sheet of 3!

Just to let you know, I've priced some EL sequencers out and they run roughly $80-200, depending on the features and the desired effect. Now I keep hearing people mention using 'cheap' Christmas light sequencers, but I have never seen one in action. I also don't know what 'cheap' means. If anyone knows where to get a Christmas light sequencer that will do what the animation shows, LMK.

i found a 4 channel on ebay for less than 20 bucks shipped. Supposed to drive upto 26' total, which isn't alot, possibly not enough.

At any rate, at the very least i can pick up 3 of the individual power supplies and then switch them some kind of way.
DP- can you look at your drawing and tell me how much EL wire is required total for each of the 3 recognizers? That'd help a great deal with getting the driver and wire ordered.

i'll definately work on figuring in wire, with a little extra to put it through the sign to the back as well. Probably get that done saturday, i'll post the feet required. Thanks!

that's fine, if you don't want to, and can send me the drawing in a dxf file i can do it myself.

A simple cmos counter will work. Plus a driver will work. You will need something adjusting the timing might be problem.

or Maybe a Cheap arudino. 25 bucks and way too many input and out puts.

yes and yes.. i am going to measure up how much wire it takes for the sign tonight, been a hectic weekend!

it will take about 50 feet to do this sign.. i'd order 53 or 54 feet to be sure! it has to go through the sign to the back in alot of places, at 3/4 of an inch at a time. hell i'd order 60 feet just to make sure you have enough length to tie it all together!
