Tron Pinball feedback?

Why didn't I think of that? My God, it's so easy...
1) Do something that's never been done before.
2) Profit

They're a business and they earn money by selling a product called "pinball". They can barely stay in business doing what they do well, much less taking a risk on "something that's never been done".

I'm talking about the art and look of the game. You're right though, keep doing things the exact same way and don't innovate at all. That'll lead to tons of NEW customers and a thriving business.

There is no other choice if you want a new pinball machine. If it cost $500 more due to some originality, do you really think buyers would scoff? With pinball these days all you have to do is chrome dip some parts, throw in a toy from Wal-Mart and give it serial #. Instant "LE" that people pay more for.

I was just illustrating, that even if you take their BEST art it pales in comparison. You guys must like fat ugly women. I like skinny pretty women. I like Stern's cabinets, they look 10 times better than anything Bally released. Party Zone? Are you kidding me? It looks like the Fresh Prince did.

I guess people just like to bitch. "THERES TOO MANY CULURZ"

"I DONT LIKE HOW THE ART HAS DETAIL"

"INSTEAD OF JUST THE NAME AND A DRAWING OF A HAND, THEY PUT PHOTOS OF PEEPLE N THER"

I mean really, what the fuck is wrong with you people?

Such talent and creativity on display there on that Avatar side art...

1. Open Rcabinetside.ai template in Adobe Illustrator.

2. Drag and drop various jpegs from the Avatar press material the studio sent over.

3. Save.

Know what would be really cool? They should just cut the actual movie posters to fit and glue them on the cabinet sides! Totally rad!

A couple of quick questions:

How many "LE" pins are they making?
How much do the sell for?
Who are most people on here ordering/buying them from?

Lee

Put creativity aside... if it looks better than use it. Also it costs a lot in this day of age to fork out and pay the artist. It's also the only way a company, the only pinball company to afford to stay in business. I happen to like jpeg photos slapped on the side of the machine, looks better.....effort is a F.

They are making a limited edition of 400.
the LE is $5,400.00 roughly, give or take.
LE version sold out apparently.

here is the first teaser pic of the LE version.

I absolutely, positively can NOT imagine that in this economy ANY pinball manufacturer could pre-sell 400 machines at over $5,000 each without anyone being able to SEE it in person. Especially given all of the dissent that the "die hard" classic pinball owners have been voicing about it being a "cash in" or not liking modern Stern manufactured pins. I understand that there are some "standard" machines out there, but according to a quick search on Ebay, the "Standard" machines are $4,900 and the "LE" machines are available for the asking price of $6,300. That is why I asked about the price. I would NOT be willing to pay over $5,000 as a "gamble" for a new pinball machine that I have not seen/played, even if all indications were that it was going to be a "home run" of a game. I WOULD, however, be willing to pay just under $5K (delivered) for a machine that I was confident would be an excellent addition to my collection and would get played...

Trust me, I would also never pay over $5,000 for a pinball that i have never seen or played also.........unless of course it was Tron......but I am a huge fan of the franchise, always have been. So I totally would understand why you woudn't pay that kinda money sight unseen. Also I didnt pay a penny for it :) I just sold off some random crap and toys that were leaving dust in the garage, and sold it on ebay, it paid for the TRON EL pin. I will be happy even if the gameplay blows.

So, where did you find a LE version for $5,400? and is that price SHIPPED?

Lee

Trent is the man :) he is on these boards, but I don't know how frequent.
add shipping, but if you have a couple others who want one ship together and save on shipping. I will pm you his email if your interested?

For me - the experience of a good pin equals hours Upon hours of play. It can get your heart racing at times when the game is done right. Combine the theme, layout, designer and the Stern factor (to me their pins surpass past efforts) and it's a layup decision. They also have stable resale. Some people get their kicks out of expensive boating or golfing or etc. For me it's pinball. The games for me get better the more I play them too.

Fortunately Tron looks like a winner, so pre orderers got lucky this time. Yes, I did have to make a few sacrifices to afford it but it's worthwhile.

NO, the rule is, if it doesn't go into production I guess there's a reason? You can show me pictures all day long of what would be better art on a pinball machine, but it never even was released! Out of games you can actually buy, Stern's art is far superior to any art that has came before it. You can likely find exceptions to that rule, but that's the rule.

I was sarcastic. You don't get to move the goal posts in a discussion just because you don't like the outcome.

Even if we are playing by your "rules", BBB got a production run anyways, although late and by another company. That still doesn't somehow null the quality of the artwork.

Unfortunately, you've taken your typical aggressive black or white stance that you've taken on every topic I've seen you in. Stern art has its moments, but you're very much wrong about Stern's art being superior. That's about all I think I can do for you here in this discussion. I could post examples of Medieval Madness, Attack From Mars, Terminator 2, Doctor Who, Party Zone, Gorgar, Bad Cats, Junk Yard, Creature From the Black Lagoon, Theater of Magic, Xenon, Space Invaders, etc. but that isn't going to really change anything. Hopefully some of the more open minded people lurking this will check that art out...and at least hold Stern to some sort of personal quality check in the future because of it. Getting some of you to realize Stern isn't above criticism seems to be a massive issue all by itself.

I must agree that the art from the Wms / Bally pins were superior - much more room for creativity, real art work, hand drawn, etc.

Stern is just photo'd on. Later Sterns look much better, probably as a result of advances in printing, and, they do know how to pick / put the right pics where they belong.

I would take "real" art anyday. But, the art doesnt make the pin for me. Unless it was a horrible job, i dont mind it.

The only artwork that i've seen yet that would turn me off from owning one is the World Poker tour (Stern pin, due to the backglass - it is UGLY), and the Shadow (I dont need alec baldwin starting at me).

IIRC WPT's backglass is actually painted artwork, which is kinda of cool...but I also agree. It isn't the most appealing backglass ever (and one guy's hand is drawn to look really long).

Also wanted to just post to clarify, I think gameplay is first and foremost as well. My impression from looking at pictures of Tron's playfield is a tweaked Funhouse. I'm hoping this is going to be to Funhouse what Spider-Man is to Attack from Mars...a really solid reimagining of a good table.

One man's random crap is another man's treasure :) I can attest to helping fund VectorInvader's Tron Pin and am looking forward to trying it out once it arrives!

Dave hooked me up with a grail I'd been looking for: a Berzerk in pretty nice condition :)

This is SLIGHTLY off topic but...

Why on earth do pinball people abbreviate the names of the games with just the first letter from each word? I have absolutely NO IDEA what a "BBB" is, but I WAS able to figure out that WPT was "World Poker Tour". Maybe it's just because I am not fully aware of ALL of the pinballs that are out there, but it is frustrating when someone assumes that everyone knows what they are talking about when giving three letter abbreviations like this...

There's a few lists out there that translate the cryptic writings of pinball aficionados. But yeah, there are times that I sit there staring at the screen trying to figure out what the abbreviation means...
Here's one page that you type in the abbreviation, and it spits out the name of the game...

Played this in Seattle today. I was really looking forward to playing it, after finally being able to get on all I can say is "meh."

It felt completely uninspired and lazy.

The game play wasn't good and I feel sorry for anyone who paid 5k for this.

There was so much potential for this and it completely fell flat.

If I'd paid $1 to play it I'd be wanting my money back.

I think that a lot of people are going to have expectations that are too high regarding this game. But not unlike the movie, however, people who are "into it" may really like it while others "hate it". I am a big Tron fan from the early days, and I actually liked the new movie. Perhaps this would make me pre-disposed to like it even when pin fanatics don't like it???

Lee

I'm a huge Tron fan.

I liked the new movie just fine.

Not exactly a pinball fanatic.

This pin design and play is just plain lazy and boring, no other way to put it.
