don't just point to the hits.. Bally and williams also did...

I will have to say the new Tron Pinball is Awesome!! I just played a few games on it at the Seattle Show. Overall play was excellent, Sounds and Artwork are awesome. I believe this is the first machine to roll off the line. Too bad I was to slow to buy a raffle ticket for it. Tickets sold out halfway thru the first day. Stern himself is going to draw the golden ticket:cool:

Why not do something that's never been done? God forbid.

Why didn't I think of that? My God, it's so easy...
1) Do something that's never been done before.
2) Profit

They're a business and they earn money by selling a product called "pinball". They can barely stay in business doing what they do well, much less taking a risk on "something that's never been done".

I do have an agenda to "push Stern". I would like others to know that these machines are fun! Other than that, i get nothing out of it / nothing in it for me.

Yeah, they still load the games up with 44 bulbs (which i change some to LEDs). They could of done so much more with Tron like blacklights. I was let down that wasnt included. The LE (fiber wire) made up for it a bit.

But, once you actually play any one of their pins, and see that the 'old' standbys just work.

Its a classic game (pinball) and any amount of updating, while it may be cool and hi tech (revenge from mars?), still leaves you the base, which is ball / playfield / rules / lightshows / flippers. I have come to learn that a good combination of those leads to hours upon hours of good times, . I've been meaning to check my audits on IM, but i would say its well over 1,000 games. I am so fickle with my games, no other game is even close to that amount of play. Same for SM.

Don't criticize Stern games, we should be lucky someone is making pinballs blah de blah de blah boo hoo FART!

Stern has made some great games (Lord of the Rings, Spider-Man, Simpsons PP, etc.), but just because they are...or were unless we count Spain and JJ...the only pinball manufacturer doesn't put them above criticism.

B/W wasn't perfect, but they were miles more open for innovative and forward thinking during THEIR time than Stern is in its time (2K to now). That's probably saying something, since IIRC the designers' hands were tied at B/W as well.

As for art, we can sit here and post pics all day long, but this kills all of it:

...and that isn't B/W or Stern. I'll take a Stan Fukuoka illustrated pin any day.

My prediction - Stern will continue to make Fun games (yes, with their flaws). Jersey Jack (Wizard of Oz) will raise the bar, lots of folks will get on Sterns case (i will just be reminding them the games are still Fun!).

The result? More pins - More competition - an "arms race" - good for us! i doubt anyone will revive to mainstream (.0001 chance!), but the community will thrive and maybe a get a few more interested.

personally, i just don't care for the full screened graphics like that on a cabinet. takes away from the style pins used to have, having less art on the sides of the cabinet and head.

however, i will say i do like the art on big bang bar. there is a local guy that has one, and it's one fun pin to play.

I was just illustrating, that even if you take their BEST art it pales in comparison. You guys must like fat ugly women. I like skinny pretty women. I like Stern's cabinets, they look 10 times better than anything Bally released. Party Zone? Are you kidding me? It looks like the Fresh Prince did.

I guess people just like to bitch. "THERES TOO MANY CULURZ"

"I DONT LIKE HOW THE ART HAS DETAIL"

"INSTEAD OF JUST THE NAME AND A DRAWING OF A HAND, THEY PUT PHOTOS OF PEEPLE N THER"

I mean really, what the fuck is wrong with you people?

If I buy something for $2000 and sell it for $5000 and it's my own private money I don't see why "running" it past anyone if you already contribute enough and pay bills makes a difference, that is why I never understand the "wife" argument.

And this is what leads to divorce.

Yeah, Stern had Leonardo come back to life and hand paint the Mona Lisa on every cabinet too.

'course it was never released.... so....

Also, I have about 20 pinball machines I designed and hand painted, that has better art than Stern's.

'course they were never released.... so.....

And Capcom! Yeah, that would have been great.

'course it was never released... so.....

Yeah, Stern had Leonardo come back to life to copy and paste the Mona Lisa in Photoshop on every cabinet too.

Seems like a waste of his talents.

So the new rule is that the examples of good pinball art have to be on common machines?

And this is what leads to divorce.

What, ASKING your wife everything? LOL

Not sure how keeping finances separate for your own hobby would lead to divorce unless other things were involved.

Let me put it to you this way...let's say you have bills of $3000 a month and you buy your wife stuff and pay more than you share, you REALLY think you have to explain purchases on games if they don't have any affect on the house?

All I know is this, I've been married for three years and lived with my wife for longer and we never argue about money or space or anything as such. I buy my stuff, she buys her stuff, we keep our stuff separate and we're the only couple I know that is happy and doesn't argue about money. All my friends that have to "ask" about purchases constantly have many problems in their relationships...

This is why I never understand this argument; money is a huge cause for divorce. If you MAKE your own hobby/money from it away from everything else, what is the problem?

I sure don't want to be like my friends who argue with their wives all the time about $50 game store purchases and arguments about WHY YOU GETTING THAT CRAP..we agreed a long time ago to avoid any type of issues like that; works for us, we're both very happy...not sure how that would lead to "divorce" if we take the money problem out of the equation.

As far as Stern pinballs go, you have to remember, everything about these is from the Sega Hardware. They may have more Williams "parts" but they still feel like Sega pins. Nothing wrong with that, there are some Sterns I like and some BW I like and some I hate on both ends; it honestly depends on the pinball, but the ONLY Stern I own right now is Sopranos and I am getting a Tron for a friend (he already has a PLayBoy Stern) but to each his own...the only Stern pinballs I really like are LOTR, Spiderman, Iron Man is better than I thought it would be, 24 (go figure), and The Dark KNight

NO, the rule is, if it doesn't go into production I guess there's a reason? You can show me pictures all day long of what would be better art on a pinball machine, but it never even was released! Out of games you can actually buy, Stern's art is far superior to any art that has came before it. You can likely find exceptions to that rule, but that's the rule.

Everybody rants about how the b/w stuff is better, I'm just illustrating that no, it's not. It's much simpler, and doesn't look as good.

If B/w was still in business, there's might be better.... but everybody's favorite folded the company because they don't give a shit about making pins when they can make more money in vegas. That's the truth.

Gary Stern, love him or hate him likes making pinball machines. Williams didn't anymore.

fully agree with you on this. If you are smart, then you dont have to ask permission. I have bought many NIB pins, including a Tron LE, and although i have let my wife know that i was ordering one, i did not ask "permission" to get the game.

However, when i say "if your smart" it has nothing to really do with intellect. It means that.

1. I dont buy something that i cant afford, it is stupid to go buy a pin and put it on a credit card or such. Or to buy one when you have bills piling up that should be paid for first.

2. as said before, you cant complain about the purchases the wife makes if you are making ones yourself. Its a two way street.

3. Games are liquid assets. My wife knows that if something happened financially, that the pins and vids are gone. Although i like them, life is more important. My wife wanted to take a year off of work when our son was born. So i decided to sell a couple of my pins to pay her car off so that we would have no bills while whe was off of work.

4. Dont have credit cards!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I do not have a single dollar on any credit cards. I only use them for booking rooms and such for vacations. When the bill for it comes, the card is paid of in full. I have not paid interest on a credit card in over 10 years

Im going to play Tron today around 2pm. Ill take the camera and give it a small review :)

Jon

Can you give it the energy like blkdog's game review? LOUD and proud is how we want it. :D

I look forward to playing it eventually. So far I have yet to see any new pins that really offer enough play field animated toys and non-traditional ramps to make it worth a higher cost purchase. I have hope for the crew of JJP to make the renaissance of pin a good one.
