Tron pin pealing clearcoat under apron?

Is that something that you can buy at art store or some place similar, or is it online only?

I actually bought the 3 piece kit from them, and installed it before I ever played it.

Heard back from Stern, and while Chaz was incredible friendly and helpful, it sounds like they are chalking this one up to normal wear and tear. So for the second time in my life I bought nail polish (clear top coat, to be specific). I'm re-clearing the area, including the previously un-cleared area where the ball drain cutout is, which will allow the mylar to stick to the grainy cut area (before it was just pulling up).

that sounds to me like buying a brand new car, a month later the seat is literally falling apart, and its chalked to normal wear and tear? bullsheet....

would it make sense to take a small rasp or nail file and bevel the edge before you repair the clear?

Man that sucks. And the only true way to get these issues taken care of is to boycott a company. We really have to stick up for this crap!

I agree with you 100%. But unfortunatley people keep buy NIB Sterns thinking it won't happen to them. I have played quite a bit of Tron/Tron LE and enjoyed the hell out of it. It is a super fun pin. But would I spend my hard earned money on a what I consider to be a gamble when it comes to quality? Nope. I'd rather play someone elses and let them deal with the hassles.

with all the issues that tron has had it makes my very hesitant to ever buy an nib pin from stern. even though im thinking about dropping the money on transformers or avengers.
i may wait to see what jjp comes out with after woz.

Wow, you guys are brutal. Overall I'm happy with my purchase and would gladly do it again. If the star wars pin ever comes to fruition, Tron will be gone, and there will be an LE Star Wars in its place.

I'm by no means a Stern fanboy. In fact, the only ones I like are tron, lotr, & tspp

It's not that they are being brutal, Stern is feeding you a line of crap. Not that there's much you can do about it. I have two Sterns with thousands of plays on them, not hundreds, and I have no wear remotely like that. It isn't normal no matter what they say. And if it is wearing/flaking prematurely down at the trough, you may see it elsewhere as the game gets more play. Hopefully not and it is just an issue at that area and not with the entire clear coat.

I'm no fanboy, but I will say all pins had issues outta the box. Williams, Gottlieb, Stern, etc. My TSPP had yellow paint on the front near the start button. They hand painted the inside routed coindoor cavity and got some on that area. Now, since Stern pins have a know issue with graphix coming off after continued play, I didn't want to try to clean it off for fear of making it look worse. I don't mind it and it is still a HUO game. LTG over at RGP will tell you they all came with issues. He has unboxed more games than any of us. :) I still have no problem supporting Stern. I only regret not getting a Spidey in 07 NIB. Now they are going for ridiculous money.

Every one of my Stern's had minor issues. Still enough to be a PITA. I'm still waiting for replacement chrome trim for my Tron LE. Supposedly I will have it this week, or so they say.

I'm sorry, this would be a totally unacceptable answer for me, especially after spending 4k+... I would be demanding a new playfield from them...

I'll give them the occasional rubber falling off, switch not adjusted right and burned out bulbs. But, when it comes down to the playfield, tha's a different story!

Was that Chaz's final answer than? Take it or leave it - even w/ a warranty? I have a luxury that I don't live to far from Stern, as I would be right at their door w/ a replacement playfield in exchange for a "new" one!

I'll give you credit - I would've been more pissed!

This is the reason I never buy Stern NIB pins....

Speaking of chrome and stern, am I the only one who thinks it looks stupid to have chrome t-molding in the backbox? I'm going to change mine out soon.

Well I have chrome T-molding on my SM with black rails. Gold T-molding on my IM with black rails. My Tron LE is all chrome so that matches.

I do think it looks much nicer when they match. I like the Gold IM kit that greatamericanpinball sells because then it matches the head T-molding.

One of the gripes I have about people doing the blue power coating on Tron LEs. Looks awesome but then the T-molding needs to be done as well.

I don't like chrome, and I'm not a fan of the blue powder coating. My machine well be getting black t-molding.

Any update on this from the OP? I sure hope Stern was willing to help on this issue. Tron is a fun game IMO, and I wouldn't mind picking one up in a few years after prices have dropped alot. That is of course if they hold up better than they appear to be doing so far.

I think prices are only going to go up on the LEs. Hype dictates price. I planning on hyping it up. ;-)

I'd never pay the premium for the LE. I have played both and would be happy with the regular Pro version.

Funny thing is I haven't seen many pros show up for sale.... yet. Maybe when more newer sterns come out.
I'll run out of room soon and I don't want to sell anything I have.
