Just started working on a Tron pcb. The screen is either all red or all blue ( it plays blind) depending on what is happening in the game. It is not the monitor. Anyone have an idea on this before I spend a lot of time looking into it?

could be a million things, but i'd start by checking the 93412/82s09 on the cpu.

Did you figure this out? Having the same issue with mine.

tron isn't that bad, i have worked on far worse., but would agree with cdjump, check all the rams, and also the ribbon cables!

Just installed new ribbon cables.

Newbie here, how do I check the 93412/82s09? I've got a DMM and a logic probe ready and waiting.

swap them around and see if it makes any differences to the video on the screen.

Reseated all the socketed chips, no change.

Checked the 82s09, it's getting 4.95v from pin 14 to pin 28. What else can I check here? Was looking at the datasheet here (http://cs.utsource.net/goods_files/pdf/12/125728_ETC_N82S09.pdf), but am a bit lost.

Didn't see any 94312 chips, but there are 8 94322's on the video board. I swapped those around, no change.

At one point I noticed that those long white strips that go across the boards were leaning up against the chips (the 82s09 in particular). I bent them straight up and down so they weren't touching anything, and the screen changed to a rolling diagonal checkerboard like pattern. But I haven't been able to repeat that.

I just took one last look before posting this...now the screen is orange, rolling black bar going across, and what looks like different frames of the top down view of a blue light cycle rolling across.

I reset it, and I still get mainly the red and blue screens, but there are brief moments where it will tease me with rolling garbage.

your probably going to need to send it out if you don't have the technical know how on how to fix. you have done everything you can do.

I'm a long way from giving up here...gotta learn somehow.

The purple wire was snipped long ago. If I connect that to 5v, I can get a solid LED for the RAM/ROM test mode, which seems encouraging I would think. Getting different stuff on the screen now, but still nothing that looks like a game.

One thing that does concern me is the proms at D2-D7, which are labeled as follows:

D2: Tron PRO-0
D3: no label
D4: Tron PRO-0 (different handwriting)
D5: Tron PRO 3
D6: Tron PRO 4
D7: Tron PRO 5

Actually, they all have different handwriting. Tried to find a close up pic online showing what those should be labeled, but failed.
