i aquired a Tron that was pretty hacked! it does have the switcher/adapter pcb and voltages from switcher are good. i believe i have everything hooked up correctly and i even replaced all 5 cables with Bob's but still can play game with good video but no sound at all. i do hear the speakers come on and kinda boot/thump at first power up.

i should say that there were 2 encoders at bottom front of cab and no encoder on spinner, so i can actually just play all but spinner so far....wouldn't think that has anything to do with sound though.

any ideas?

theres a shielded cable that goes in between the pcbs and ends up at the sound amp(left side of cab, right side if looking from rear.)

check that cable well, check the connectors, and make sure you dont have cold solder joints on the amp.

You have tried cranking up the sound pot correct??(its located above the test and service switches)

congrats on the tron! i just resurrected one myself. ALl i have left to do on mine is bondo it paint it and put onnew art, because its effing ugly looking the way it is now...

i replaced about 12 inches of wood on the sides and built a whole new bottom... mine was effed!!!!

yes i cranked up volume but couldn't hear a thing..not even faint! i assume you were talking about the little amp pcb for cold joints? i haven't yet and will do next.

o and i need to strip and paint also...what type paint you gonna use? semi? sg? gloss?

thanks

i would use probably a satin or a semi, so it's not too shiny. i've never painted a cab, though, so someone else should chime in.

as far as yr voltages, check the amp board too. there is an unregulated +12 that powers the amp aside from the +12 that does the sound.

still no diff after i reflowed header pins(they kinda looked like cold joints) and made sure i had continuity to Dual Amp pcb.

ok, there was actually 15.8vdc between pin 5 and 8 goin to J1 on Dual Amp pcb, so i jumpered a 12vdc to pin 8 and still no diff.

i get nothing but .5vdc to both speakers???

does this mean i might have a Super Sound pcb prob?

any ideas?

i would try replacing the board interconnect cables. you can get them from bob roberts or arcadeshop. and i believe the 15.8 is ok, it's unregulated voltage iirc. and if the interconnect cables don't work, see if there's someone near you that might have an amp board you could swap in. have you checked to make sure the volume pot isn't dirty or the wiring going to it is bad? also, how is yr +12 from the power supply?

i have replaced interconnect cables already and 12vdc is good from supply! im at a loss unless i just have a prob with amp board or sound pcb.

the 12v is unregulated I believe which means it can run higher than 12v. It's usually not a big deal. Sounds like you have covered most of your bases. You might consider trying a new z80 chip on your super sound board. (the top board in the 3 board pcb stack) If this chip fails you will have no sound. It should give an error message I believe though. Although I don't believe I got an error message on my spy hunter when my z80 was dead.
