Thank you for your thoughts, @Phetishboy. Your comments about me made me laugh.I know this sound a little deceptive, but if I was selling it, I would never mention anything about the Robbie Roto cabinet. If it's that close or even an almost identical cabinet, why even bother mentioning it? You might just end up turning potential buyers away that wouldn't have known any better otherwise. I can tell you it would take me 10+ years of researching to even figure out it was in the wrong cabinet if I bought it without knowing beforehand. I don't think it's that big of a deal. But if you bring it up to potential collector-buyers, they WILL make a big deal out of it, just to get it cheaper. The only person who might know the difference without you telling him would be ScottC, and I doubt he'll be buying it anyway.
In my view, and this is getting a bit philosophical, if someone knows a cabinet is not original to the game, then it should be mentioned. That is part of the history, but also part of the originality, just like having a reproduction cabinet. One example that comes to mind is when I heard many years ago of people "restoring" Galagas using Ms. Pac-Man cabinets or vice-versa. Yes, there are some differences, but I still recall people mentioning that specific detail (game x in another game cabinet). While you are right, most people would not know the difference in those particular mini cabinets, it is still a conversion in the most literal sense. We are about preserving the history, as well as the game, so not disclosing that is misleading. Another example I have heard over the years... Centipede and Dig Dug cabaret cabinets are the same. Technically, that is not true, which is why if I bought a Dig Dug cabaret and discovered it was actually a Centipede cabinet, then I would be concerned. Further, if I found a Centipede in a Dig Dug cabaret, I would want to discuss that with the owner, or even potentially buy it, restore it to a Dig Dug, then put all of the Centipede parts into a converted Centipede cabaret (much easier to find). Another point, as a group (KLOV), we discuss factory conversions during sales, so discussing the originality of the cabinet is something we already do.
With the above in mind, I have been lightly rolling around the idea of buying that TRON mini just to get the original wiring harness, which is the only thing missing in my TRON mini. If money were no object or grew on trees, then I would not think twice about it. However, that is not the case and spending $1,200-$1,500 on a wiring harness is a bit much.
@MackAttack you did a great job on the game, so please don't take anything I am saying as a personal attack, since that is not at all my intention. I am only speaking about the cabinet originality question. If you need some help or want to discuss the backdoor, then I can certainly help.
Good luck on your sale, MacAttack.
