Tron legacy sucked!

Yea, someone didn't do their homework unless they're thinking Finn's closed down after '92. Would have been cooler to put a space theme game on the end rather than Mario Bros. Some studios (Pixar) will get every detail right for the enthusiasts. Makes a more authentic experience.

Isn't it called Flynn's? I thought Finn's was a Dolphins-Themed sports bar?

TRON SUCKS! I wonder how long it will take to get the scent of all the 40 year olds coming out of the basement for the first time in 20 years out of the movie theater.

The only thing I can hope for is that the movie doesnt make good money and this will be the end of tron for good.

Yeah Adam you wouldn't like it....the movie is absolutely Golden Tee free. I looked really closely at the arcade scene....no GT....no TMNT....no DDR.

Don't worry though - I hear they're making another Pokemon movie - you could probably trade your cards in the lobby.

I thought that too, but Alan says that the phone number at his dad's office in the arcade has been disconnected for 20 years, which would have it closing by 1990... of course he may not have meant "exactly" 20 years, but Flynn disappeared in 1989, so that would make sense...
And of course why would you still have all of the classics in the arcade but only one modern game.

** MORE SPOILER ALERT **

well, the storyline does go that Flynn didn't disappear until '89. maybe the arcade stayed open for a few more years with someone else running it and the "that number has been disconnected for 20 years" was just an approximation of the time that had passed since closing, or the new story doesn't take place in 2010 but a few years in the future.

very long stretch to make it fit, i know.

In the arcade scene, the thing that I immediately thought about after seeing it was, who is going to repro that Flynn's Arcade rules sign hanging on the wall under the windows that look out into the arcade? It looks a lot like the Time Out Tunnel sign that was reproed, but I am positive it at least said Flynn's on it. I can't find a screen shot. Anyone else catch it? This is the Time Out Tunnel sign that it looks like...

Yes - it had the Flynns logo on the top left corner. I want one.

Saw this in IMAX today. Not too impressed.

Computer generated young Jeff Bridges looked flat out disturbing, like they took a character from the CGI Beowulf movie and put it in with regular actors. It looked OK until it moved, with dead shark eyes and stiff face.

The "rave" club character (Zuse) was just awful, total cornball shit. When I saw the Daft Punk video, it was so cheesy I thought it was part of the music video andnot part of the movie. Ugh.

They tried to make old Jeff Bridges into some kind of hippy or something, but his lines were cringingly bad -like he was doing an impersonation of Tommy Chong or something.

My biggest issue is that it was a dumb movie trying to seem profound. If it was just mindless running and blowing shit up I would have been fine with it. Some of the CGI was really cool, but like any new action movie, there are so many quick-cuts that you often can't tell what the hell is going on. Sorry, I'm not won over by arcade games under plastic sheets and cameos of handheld Mattel football games.

sadly most video game movies are horrable! Was'nt the first Tron movie really bad allso?

Dont forget about merchandising.

It's got to sell a lot of tickets to make any money, at least for the theatrical run. Disney spent almost $300 million to make and market this film, and they'll get around half the total box office. So it has to make almost $600 million worldwide, and usually the US accounts for half of the box office.

Thus, the golden number is $300 million in BO in the US. That's at least 20 million people seeing this movie. Of course this does not include later revenue from pay per view, cable and DVD sales, which will add to the haul.

Some "experts" were claiming that the movie was only going to gross $70 million opening weekend. It seems inconceivable that this movie will make less than $100 million opening weekend.

Dont forget about merchandising.

Yes - there is merchandise, pay per view, home video/DVD and the video games (which have been widely panned).

We'll see. I myself have no intention of buying anything other than a ticket to see the movie and some popcorn.

Anyone else notice the "house rules" sign on the wall?

Flynn's House Rules.

EDIT - oops someone else already caught it too.

The re-creation of Flynn's place gave me goosebumps.

I wanted more "Tron" in Tron. He was barely a cameo.

And Flynn didn't "get rich from inventing Tron", he got rich from inventing "Space Paranoids", which was not featured anywhere.

I wanted less characters, but deeper..had a hard time relating to anyone...

Sam Flynn's nostrils in IMAX...about swallowed me up.

Effects, sound were amazing, but I wasn't in awe like I thought I would be.

And the digs at "evil capitalists" and Microsoft weren't needed...ENCOM wasn't a bad company..Dillinger was...the MCP was...

Dude, I've seen many threads where you rip on the game and movie, but it almost seems like you have a personal hatred issue with it....Did you have a bad Tron nightmare when you were little? Did Jeff Bridges beat up your dad back in the day?? It's just a movie\game, calm down killer!

Tron was in the movie quite a bit. When and if you see if again you will see he was in the movie almost as much as anyone else.

You will also notice a nice "space paranoids" machine with beautiful side art in Flynns arcade. a sweet looking EDOT as well.
