Tron: Legacy Movie Reviews are now available

I actually do put a lot of credence into movie reviews from reviewers whose tastes seem to more or less match mine.

But I also filter based on a bunch of criteria. Mixed reviews for a Disney live-action film are, for me, better than normal.

THAT'S AWESOME NEWS!! I always enjoy the movies that the reviewers dislike and hate the ones they like.

Nobody in the movies I like ever wins an OSCAR!

Most of the reviews are not from professional movie reviewers - most appear to be fans of Tron who got into advance screenings.

A lot more reviews will be coming along in the next two weeks, and of course we will all be able to judge for ourselves when we see it.

After reading the Tron: Betrayal graphic novel prequel, I'm actually kind of hopeful plot-wise. I think it's too soon to write this one off yet.

Plus, a 71% on RottenTomatoes is fantastic. Unless you're Pixar or some indie company doing some surreal 'artistic' stuff, you're good as long as you're in the "Fresh" category. A lot of movies I really like scored way below what Legacies has so far. It's not going to get 90% because it's a nerd movie, it doesn't have the same "every human being can relate" appeal that higher rating movies do, and it doesn't have some deep, underlying agenda so it's not going to score well with everybody. The very fact a movie that is a sequel to such a niche title is dong as well as it so far from advance screenings alone is very, very promising.

Best review, ever:

The film is a Fleshlight. It looks like the real thing, and it might get you off, but it is plastic, phony, and utterly soulless

I saw that one. Very funny; also very Comic-Book-Guy-esque.

But again, for Disney, that's pretty good. Generally, Disney films don't even give you a woody.

(At least, they didn't until they bought Pixar.)

On a side note. I just watched the original Tron again and have been seeing all of the previews for the new movie on TV. Is Tron actually in the movie?

I've heard they explain what happen to him. Not sure if they show him or not. I kind of assume he's an obsolete program if I had to guess.

My wife and I went to the free pre screening last night with the tickets I won on the Norelco site.

Short spoiler free review:
We both thought the movie was just average.
Don't bother seeing it in 3D.

Unless there's a different version being released tomorrow, the whole movie isn't in 3D and the parts that are aren't don't use it that well anyway. There was a printed disclaimer as the movie started that said words to the effect of: 'Some scenes are presented in 2D as they were originally shot. Please put on your 3D glasses now and leave them on for the entire film'.

I was trying not to watch the trailers or find out too much about the movie before seeing it, and didn't know that the film wasn't shot in 3D. I think this kind of movie is why 3D eventually fades away as it does whenever it comes back into popularity. Poor execution for the wow factor that makes people realize that the bang aint worth the buck.

Where Avatar used 3D to really draw you in to the film, Tron just uses it as a tacky add on. I'm sure I would have liked it a bit better in 2D.

He is in the movie in flashbacks showing Clu, Flynn and Tron creating the Grid. Also, there is a plot twist involving Tron.

From what I read in an interview with the director, the film WAS shot in 3D; they just used the 3D once the characters are in the "grid", not in the sequences that take place outside of the grid (i.e. the beginning of the movie).

I saw the 20 minute IMAX preview a month or so ago and will say that the 3D seemed more subtle and doesn't hit you over the head like Avatar or whatever.

there are a lot of holes in the story becuase they are preparing for eventually making a third Tron. I have not seen Tron Legacy yet, but if it is a campy film like some are saying then i might just like it even more :) hince why i like Tron to begin with.

They just announced the weekend gross and it's less than $50 million. That seems pretty low.

I haven't seen it yet.
