TRON LE specifications

I'll go with best price LE and since I live in Chicago I'm hoping we can work it out to pick it up to save the shipping. If someone can hook me up with that, I'm all ears.

Cowbell, I think I might go w/ Mike @ Great American Pinball... I think he was around 5.6kish....He's from the West Chicago area; so it will definitely save on shipping or risk of damage in transit!

Wow....I can't believe how many guys are willing to drop 5.5k on a machine they have never played! Stern machines are often hit or miss....and thats alot to gamble on it not being a turd.

It's not every day that a theme comes out that people are actually thrilled with. Tron isn't CSI, Monopoly, or Wheel of Fortune, themes that NO ONE asked for or wanted. Tron has been salivated over for years, even before the new movie. I could give two craps about the last 10 themes that Stern has released, but Tron is a biggie as far as I'm concerned. I've saved tons of money by not investing in World Series of Poker and 24, so now I can spend my hard earned dough on the one I really want.

I am in for a LE. Unseen yes. I got "lucky" with Iron Man - bought that unseen. Spiderman too. Going for the trifecta here.

I actually think our chances with Tron are the best of the three - here is why:

-- I love the LE package details. Lots of add ons, the cost is nearly justified - especially if you consider time spent trying to piece it together. Do i really need a Chrome package? No, but man it will look good. I do need that lighting though! Having to not install another Shaker motor - that works for me too.

-- The layout - Funhouse style - if you havent played a Funhouse that layout is the best of any Pin in my opinion. Yes, it is bold for them to copy it to a T, but, its a tried layout and lots of fun. I was actually going to get a Funhouse earlier this year, passed on quite a few, and happy to say i did - this will be my "Funhouse". I would rather have the Hip Tron theme over the Rudy theme too (nothing against Rudy at all - that game is a classic and wont be topped no matter how good Tron ends up).

-- The artwork - i like it alot - think it looks really good. Will look nice next to a Tron machine too (that little arcade figure on the playfield put me over the top).

-- The only outstanding question is the software. Sterns software is always solid and top notch. The only thing i hope they don't do is go the Batman approach, with custom cartoon images - that ruined BDK IMO (clown bad guys going down a rope? Cartoon Joker? Big Schnozzed Batman cartoon?). I cant see them doing that on a Tron - its way off base - i think they will use alot of images from the film.

The ruleset also looks like it will be a winner - goal based to get to the portal - thats the whole idea of Tron - and i look forward to trying to make it out of the grid.

** These are my speculations, that justified my advance buy.

Well, its May now, so only a month or so wait time......

Agreed. I've never even considered buying a NIB Stern before. Even the themes I liked. And I'm almost onboard for a LE. Almost. It's a tough call. I could get 2 A-list Bally/Williams games for the same price.

That's interesting, most people don't like the digitized movie footage - they prefer custom DMD art and animation. That being said Tron footage should make for the "cleanest" DMD footage yet, since the movie has so much "black" in the background instead of detailed buildings and whatnot.

Can anyone in here give me some places where I can pre-order this from? Exact websites, etc, and if I have to pay for everything at once? I have never purchased a new Stern before.

well, I think I am gonna have to get the pro version, I need the rest of the money for business. So, that being said, I have been a thinker.....and I want to mod it up and put some el tape and wire to the ramps and such. Now.....were have any of you gone to order it, and how do you apply it to a surface like a pinball ramp? Also is there a adhesive to apply to the surface? would you drive the el wire or tape to one of the drivers on the machine, or buy a seperate inverter to supply the power?
Any help appreciated.

Dave

Depends on what you want to do with it. For example, if you wanted it to come on with a CPU controlled lamp I would probably use an optocoupler powered by the lamp driver which then in turn energizes a relay or transistor that powers the EL wire.

There are lots of options depending on exactly what you're looking to do.

I assume the EL wire would come with it's own power supply that will run on 120VAC. Then it's just a matter of how/when you turn it on.

Thank you, but I don't know what to do with it, lol.....
I am clueless with the electrical part of this hobby, I know I know....I need to start learning.
I am looking for the easiest but also the best solution.

since i have no experience with electrical wiring and el wire and all i think im just gonna say f*#k it and go with the LE ;)

Thank you, but I don't know what to do with it, lol.....

The best solution will not necessarily be the easiest ;)

Once you decide exactly what you want to do we can help you out further. In the mean time you can look at what optocouplers are and how they work. You'll probably want to use them if you're going to add anything based on CPU controlled lamps or other controlled stuff like a motor relay or something.

Thank you, I know I will need assistance with it.

i'm sure some purists would be down on it, but i think it looks awesome. besides, the guy in the vid said that his STTNG wasn't in the best of shape, so he opted to go this route to jazz it up a bit....i think that's perfectly acceptable.

I know what you mean, but I am getting the pro version, so I have to do it :)
EL wire = Tron Pinball (FTW)!!!

If anyone is interested in ordering a Tron Pro or Tron LE drop me a line at trent at midohio . net.
I'm a Stern distributor and can give you all the details. Even if you aren't interested in Tron but wanted to be added to my pinball list let me know.
