Tron LE Defects

Thanks for the info Dave. I was just being overly cautious since I've not done an update yet.

I did perform the update yesterday and it was really easy to do following your tips and the instructions on the inside cover of the manual. What a huge change this update was - it made the game better IMHO which I didn't think would be possible.

Played it all day yesterday off and on.

Given they only made 400 of this version I'm surprised there was this many changes made. That was alot of work for a small number of games. I'm impressed with Stern.

no problem, it's pretty easy. Here is the link to the download:

http://www.sternpinball.com/GAME-code.shtml#

1. you will see a click to download, click on premium/le code

2. drop the files after you downloaded them to a thumb drive usb stick

3. there will be a read me file for directions if you don't have the manual :)

let me know if you need any more help.

Dave

Found a cold solder joint on the ball trough jam opto. My wife was playing the flippers just went dead. My dealer actually knew exactly what it was as soon as I explained what happened. Found it and reflowed the solder.

Just installed my LED backbox kit and Flipper Fidelity Speakers too.

Wow ! really like the back box lighting, you have a link to were you purchased? where did you pick up the 3 led sequencer lights, did it come with the kit?

Flipper Fidelity made the backbox kit for me. I went to his house and took my sequencing LED strip along and make this just for me.

Here is another one he did just using a white strip on a controller set to flash.

I don't know if he will make more like mine. Up to him. Since he helped me out I'm not revealing my source. I will tell you that they sequencers are not bright enough and need to be tripled up. This doesn't give them the perfect effect I wanted becuse they all don't sequence together. If one strip was bright enough, it would look better.

Maybe this is just a general Stern pin issue, but it is happening on my TRON LE. Just about 50% of the time when I turn it on I only get general illumination -- the game does not start, no DMD, etc. If I turn it off and back on it will start fine. Happening enough just to piss me off. Anything to check for or is this going to be a call to Stern?

if i paid for an LE and have that happening that often, i can guarantee you i'd be on the phone with stern.

i have 200-250 plays now and i've yet to see that happen.

that's not normal. at all.

I had this happen to me once. A couple of times, the DMD hasn't come up as quickly as it does other times. Strange, but so far nothing keeping me from enjoying the game.

Believe it or not - this is "normal" (although 50 percent is very high). There is a thread over on RGP about it (something like Jon Favereaus Iron man is dead).

That happens once every 15 times on my Iron man. I didnt think anything of it for the last year and came across that RGP thread - turns out this is a very common problem with Sterns dating back to TSPP!

Report it to Stern, they know all about it. Surprised others dont have the issue.... also not sure why your frequency is higher than others. The average seems like 1 in 10 - 20 times.

holy crap....i can't believe this is actually a "REAL" issue.....granted though, this (TRON) is my first stern title.

if it has been happening since way back with TSPP, why haven't they corrected it? seems that it would be a major issue.

weird. glad it hasn't happened to me.

It happens on both my SM and IM enough to piss me off. I heard it was the power driver board that may be the issue. The funny thing is once I plugged all my pins into an APC Smart UPS that they were going to toss from our servers in work, I haven't had the issue that I can recall.

I thought the same (power driver connector) - so i reseated them when i first got the game, but still happens (infrequently). At this point, just happy to know its not machine specific and maybe someday Stern will issue a fix - but i would assume its hardware related, so it may be very costly to fix it for everyone!

The whole power driver board would need to be replaced or the CPU board. I heard from my distributer that is the cause. I even posted on the Stern forums.

This has happened to me only once, and only since I've updated the code to 1.3. Scared the shit out of me the first time it happened. I switched it off and back on and all has been good since. I've not checked my playcounter, but with my son playing it as much as he does, I'm sure it's over 250 now.

It'll get some exercise this weekend, company's coming...

Hope my disk rubber doesn't come flying off!

The power up issue is something that has been going on for quite some time. This is news to me actually because I havent ever seen it happen. I just got off the phone with Stern and they said they have been working to figure this out and hopefully when they do it will be just a software update. But for those who cant live with it as long as your under warranty still you can do a CPU swap.

Just an fyi for all.

Edit- I just realized I didnt read this last page and other people already got the answer and now I look stupid......
