Tron LE Defects

My friend had a party last night to show off his new Tron LE. It has the same issues that have already been mentioned. The Recognizer doesn't move correctly... but he hasn't tried to fix it yet. And before the night was over the rubber disc came flying out!
Still a pretty fun game though. I don't feel compelled to run out and buy one, but it is a solid game.
Oh, and I forgot to mention, he has a shaker motor installed. That was a nice touch (really should have been included in the LE package).
One thing I did find odd/disappointing was that the Recognizer was not lit up.... And it appears to have been designed to take some kind of lighting. Strange thing to cut out of the production. Oh well, I'm sure somebody has already made a mod for it.

Yep.

just right or too much?

Some cool stuff there, but a bit much. While the stock cycles are a bit small, those are just too big. I can do without the sideart neon... too distracting, and I prefer not to turn my gameroom into a disco. My games are packed side-by-side anyway. The topper action is pretty cool.

this seems to be a lil over the top for my taste....

but damn the recognizer topper is pretty damn cool when it lights up and all. the guy even has light up side art!

what do you guys think?

just right or too much?

I think it's a bit much, but in regards to his two topper guys, I wanted to do that very same thing. I have the figures and wanted to wire them up to a playfield switch somewhere. I took one apart to see if it was possible, but the wire to the switch was so small and fine I decided against it. Looks like I should reconsider as he was able to do it!!

I'm kind of leery about adding wiring to a 6K pinball and causing a problem somewhere...I know, no guts no glory....

i think those two cycles are pretty cool with the way they interact with the playfield, but for my tastes they're just too darn big. i have one that i plan to use as a topper, but i don't want it on my playfield. i think the target exclusive toys are a more appropriate size.

i have the deluxe clu figure like he does, but i'm not sure what i'm gonna do with it (if anything). thought about buying the recognizer carrying case like he has and using it for a topper at one point, but ultimately decided against it. i think i'm gonna go with the identity disc flanked on each side by the light cycles (i have both sam & poppa flynn's).

not sure what to think about the side neons....i wouldn't use them in my current setup simply because my pins are head to head.

but mods are simply personal preference....i plan to add some of the target exclusive figures and what i do might seem too much (or too little) for someone else's tastes.

Numbnuts Gary can say whatever he wants, but he knows damn well that Ops aren't buying the LE.
When only 400 units are going out the door as LE's, and you know this(Claiming otherwise is BS on their part), a little extra QA should be had...

Who's to say more QA isn't being done? Just because home buyers have found issues doesn't mean anything. If some people in this hobby were being walked to the hanging noose they would complain about the rope.

Seriously a paint chip under the clear coat. Anyone concerned to that degree should buy from showroom dealers only and pay for that additional service. Then they can go through the playfield with a fine-toothed comb and demand it all be fixed before taking delivery.

thats a great mod. love the recognizer lit up like that. the slow blinking is a cool effect too (instead of blinking way too fast and spazzy).

is this your machine rob?

No, not mine just liked the mod. I wish it were mine. Been playing Tron LE like crazy here in Vegas at the phof and I love it. Stern hit a home run with this game IMO.

Well I found another minor issue with my LE. The translight lock doesn't actually lock the translight in. I can remove the translight in the locked or unlocked position. It looks like they put the wrong depth lock in or something.
I thought it was weird that I had silver and brass colored keys as well. Silver for the coin door and brass for the translight locks. I've never had brass colored before on my other NIB pins from stern.
Anyone else have the issue or am I just lucky???

I have two different color sets of keys as well, but I've not tried to remove the translite. The game is in a position that would make it hard to try to do that now.

just uploaded the new 1.3 code, it's awesome ! great fixes and added features :)

V1.3 - July 28, 2011
=======================

- Added proper wire colors for the L.E.D. lamps.
- Doubled the amount of time the total bonus is displayed.
- Added art for extra ball award.
- Fixed 5x5 font.
- Added extra ball to daft punk spellout.
- Recognizer now moves with the lamps.
- Removed the background light tube effect for the disc which was
causing other
background light tube effects (zuse, gem, etc.) to not run when the
spinning
disc was active. Spinning disc light tube background effects have
plenty of
coverage elsewhere (as they should).
- Added a lamp effect for game over.
- Fixed a problem with the special not lighting up when "light
special" was
given out from Flynn's arcade.
- Right orbit post is now not raised during the bumpers mode if a
combo is
available on the right orbit. If the right orbit post is raised due
to the
bumpers mode, then the right orbit awards are given out on the first
spinner
hit, since the right orbit switch is not accessible.
- Added attract mode flipper button speech.
- Fixed a problem where shooting the right loop to re-light Flynn's
Arcade was
not updating the Flynn's Arcade lamp correctly.
- Tweaked out new attract mode light show.
- Disc background lamp effect now flashes the disc flasher blue during
disc
multiball and portal.
- fixed a problem where the recognizer 3-bank motor didn't stopped at
the desired
limit switch.
- fixed a problem where the recognizer 3-bank motor was causing the
device to ball
search 2 times instead of just one.

Dave, can you give details...? This sounds like an awesome update.

How did you get the updated code? USB drive from Stern or download it somewhere? What's the process like to update a Stern Pinball? I've only done my RFM through my laptop pc.

What is this "Boot Flash EPROM" they talk about in the update instructions. Is that already installed on the CPU board or is that some special ROM we need to obtain and install?

Thanks!
Tom

no problem, it's pretty easy. Here is the link to the download:

http://www.sternpinball.com/GAME-code.shtml#

1. you will see a click to download, click on premium/le code

2. drop the files after you downloaded them to a thumb drive usb stick

3. there will be a read me file for directions if you don't have the manual :)

let me know if you need any more help.

Dave

Well you need to remove the translite to update the firmware. Check to see if you can remove the translight without unlocking it first. Just curious because I'm surprised the translight didn't fall out and break during shipping.

I had to unlock mine to get the translite out.

Normally I unlock it and remove the translight not even thinking about it. I only found it when I had the key in the coin door and was still able to install the translight. I was like wait... I need the key in the backbox to unlock it to install the translight, then looked at it more closely.

They installed the L shaped cam that is on the lock upside down. Knuckheads. I'm just glad the translight didn't fall out in transport.

My LE is on the way, and its not for my house.
I bet most sell overseas to ops. People are more hardcore for pin over there.
