Hey Guys, I'm working on a TRON with an odd problem and I hope someone out here has had the same issue and solved it. This game seems to be all original and in fair condition. Works and sounds fine with one exception. When the game is sitting idle in attract mode there is a fairly loud hum coming from it. As soon as you start a game the hum goes away. Also, if you remove the bulbs from the coin door the hum also goes away. I checked the bulbs and they are the correct ones. Also, if you remove only one bulb the noise gets a little quieter. I checked to make sure the coin door is grounded and everything else looks OK as well. Any suggestions? Thanks.

I can't remember... do the lights on the coin door get their voltage from the transformer or the power supply board?

If it's the board... might just need a rebuild kit, but I can't think of why it would only happen when the game is in attract mode... Have you checked the muting circuit (mainly the resistor) to make sure that it's still in tolerance?

The coin door lamps get their power from the same place the sound amp does. I once saw a Tron that had this horrid, LOUD hum, that was soon followed by a blowing sound fuse. Turned out one of the wires had fallen off the coin door lamp socket and was touching the coin door. I think you're on the right track with the coin lamps - check the wiring and contacts very carefully.

Next time I get a chance I'll check the wiring again, at first look everything looked fine. I am starting to think adding a switching power supply may also be a good idea. I don't know if or when that original power supply was rebuilt but I'll take a closer look at it later. thanks.

Dave - Did you ever figure out what was causing the hum? I've seen a lot of threads about Tron hum in general, esp. with switchers, but haven't seen an explanation for why it's only in attract mode (I hate unsolved mysteries :D)
