I recently picked up a Tron, and it has a graphics glitch. It is in the lower right hand corner of the screen (see pic). I was reading a previous post and it was saying that this is normal and there is nothing that can fix this glitch. Is this truly the case?

It's not really a glitch persay... it's common. As far as I know it's just the ram information spilling over into the video. You can adjust it out with V-Size (make the screen "taller" since it's mounted vertically). After you adjust that you'll probably have to adjust the V-Pos as well.

It's completely possible to adjust out, same goes for the glitch at the top of the screen (which you already have adjusted out). If you DO see that glitch (usually a blue box) that can be adjusted out with the H-Width Coil and H-Pos.

As far as FIXING it goes, no... there's no real fix, you just have to adjust it out of the screen. It happens on every boardset, and actually happens in MAME too, they just code to hide it... but it is there.

This is normal from what I've seen on Tron boards.

Maybe your monitor has a vertical size or vertical position control that will allow you to move it offscreen.

Great, thanks a lot for your help guys. I'm pretty sure i can adjust it out, as i was messing with the screen size last night. I just wanted to make sure this wasn't an actual problem, as i would have rather fixed the problem than just hiding it by stretching the monitor. But since this is normal and common for all Trons, i'll just adjust it out and call it good. Thank you very much for you help.

Also...i've still got the battery soldered on the board. I definately want to take this off. Does this thing just save high scores? Will it operate fine without the battery? Can i put a 2 slot remote battery holder on it with a blocking diode like you can do for pinball machines?

Yes, remove that battery, all it does is save the high scores. The machine will operate fine without it. Actually, if it's the original battery, all it DID was save scores... now all it does is threaten to destroy your power supply board.

Instead of a battery you could just replace the RAM on the center board with an NVRAM, then you won't have to worry about batteries again for about 10 years. Plus the boards can be disconnected from the PS without losing scores for if you ever have to work on them... hell, you can remove that RAM, put it on a shelf out of the board for a few years, put it back in and your scores will still be there. lol Love 'em. Here's the picture of one installed on my boards. Works like a champ, it's a little sensitive sometimes, but that's because of the power at the arcade being a little wonky in the morning when you first hit the breakers. At home, I had 0 problems with it.

Cool, thanks for the reply about the battery. I was hoping to go the cheap route and just use a remote battery holder i have laying around the house from my pinball supplies. But that NVRAM setup does look slick.

The replacement rams are pretty cheap, I was selling these for something like $12, but people were having trouble getting them to work... even though I tested every one of them on my personal Tron machine with no issues. I would've kept selling them, but the "tech support" was just killing me.

even though others have already let you know, it is super normal, and somewhat across the board on the mcr games. my satan's hollow does it as well, and i've seen it on quite a few other trons in the wild.
