ok, here's a REALLY short video of the problem the seller is having with a Tron machine that I am looking at...

The game looks OK in attract mode, but rolls in gameplay... does the same thing on the light cycles...

For those who are experienced in these kinds of problems, what do you think the problem is? PCB? Monitor? Something else?

I'm still up in the air as to whether I want to buy, but need help with making a decision..

Here's the sellers description of the problem:

Here's a video clip that shows what it is doing. In the clip I am trying to move my tank from the bottom of the screen to the Left and Up. It goes Left, but does not go Up. You can see me pass right through the enemy tank which should result in my tank getting killed, but it doesn't, which is ordinarily impossible. The common thread with all 4 games – as well as the game selector (where you pick a game by going left, right, up or down) – is that things that should appear at center screen are stuck at the bottom. For instance, when the game selector screen appears, what I should see is the ball (it is probably supposed to be a disk?) in the center of the screen and I have 10 seconds to pick a game by going Left, Right, Up or Down, but instead the ball is at the middle of the bottom of the window. If I try to move the ball up, the ball does not visually go up, but the game at the top gets selected. Likewise, if I go left, right or down, the game seems to respond correctly, but the monitor does not. Let me know if your friend has any questions. I look forward to hearing his thoughts.

Definitely not monitor... it's PCB related, whether it's caused by bad cables, chips, traces, power, etc would have to be troubleshot.

I'd start with the MCR basics... reflow all the pins on for the connectors and get some new cables from Bob. Then go from there... you'd be amazed how many problems are fixed by the reflowing alone.

Ask him if there are any errors when he boots the machine up. Sometimes it will freeze at ROM/RAM errors, sometimes it'll continue to play with garbled graphics... just depends on how bad the error is.

Either way, the Tron movie is coming out later this year, and the price of the machines will probably be going up and up as the movie gets closer and closer to getting released... now's the time to buy before the price gets out of hand, IMO.

I'm gonna agree with everyone else.....motherboard problem. And I'll add, MCR games can be a pain to debug.
