TRON issues

I have a tron, that was working earlyer. I started it up this weekend and got a strage screen. I tryed resetting all of the cables with no luck. I tested on the game +5 volts on the game board. I had a power supply kit from bob roberts and installed that and changed out the battery with that kit. Tested +5 with the test screen and was excited that it was back.
10 minutes later, started it back up and am back to the same screen. I have not changed out the filter caps yet. Anyone have this happen or have ayother ideas?

Was thinging of ordering the filter caps or getting the arcade shop tron power adapter to replace the power board. anyone have any ideas on this. would like to keep it vintage, but in the end, would rather play it then keep fixing it.

Well I worked on it a little more. A web site indicating he cut the J4 purple rest wire on the power board and the game worked. So I tryied it and it also worked with one exception. When the game starts up, it looks like the sync is out like in the video. But after 10-15 seconds it stablizes and you can play the game, eventualy it goes out of sync again and back to stable.

I know the monitor is good becuase it was used with another game.

1. I have to assume that cutting the rest wire is not a good thing. Has anyone else seen this, and what may be cuaseing the reset?

2. Any ideas on what may be cuaseing the sync like temporary issue?

Was the Bob Roberts kit you installed just for the battery mod, or did you do the full shotgun kit? If you did the full kit, it should have fixed it. Cutting the reset wire will work, as you have seen, but is not the optimal solution.

It looks like the monitor has a slight V Hold problem. Let the machine warm up for ~ 10 minutes or so. Then move the V Hold back and forth to get it going both ways. Then slowly adjust it so that it is stable. That should fix it up if there are no issues with components on the monitor.

Someone far more informed than myself will likely chime in with a better answer, but the reset just ensures that the boards receive the proper voltage they need. If it detects a drop for a certain amount of cycles, it resets and waits for good voltage before finishing the reset and starting the game. A couple months after I bought my TRON, I started sometimes getting the garbage at boot up. It became intermittent and I sent the linear PS board off when I had my PCBs fixed. I can't explain it, but it continued to start with the garbage screen a couple times afterwards, but hasn't done it in many months. Maybe your boards just need some adjustment time?
