TRON free play ROM Mod

It has regular full attract mode. It just say 'free play' down a the bottom. The only problem it seems to have is that I think it stores credits for each press of the player start buttons. So the game will automatically continue if you die on the early continuable levels. Not really a problem, but at parties with first time player dieing on the early boards the game continues and makes it tough for someone to start fresh.

That sucks. Thanks for the info. Guess I will stick with the credit push button.

Hmm... are you sure about that? I haven't played it a whole lot since I installed my chip, but I don't remember this problem (assuming it's the same as http://www.arcadecollecting.com/hacks/tron/ ). The only thing I remember is the game freaking out if the board is in cocktail mode.

The link does reference the arcadecollecting site. Reading the description there I see this:
" If you have your "Allow Continues" dip switch set, when it comes time to continue, you can do it without adding any credits." Maybe that is the potential source of the confusion on continues?

If someone could verify the behavior of the modification, that would be great. :)

May just have to get one and try it.

I have it and mrpeepers is correct. The game will continue automatically once. The next time (game 3) you will have the option to continue or start fresh.

There is attractmode with freeplay enabled.

I have a freeplay chip. My only problem is it skips thru the game instruction screens. Still havent found an answer. Otherwise it works great.

[ From Steph at www.Hobbyroms.com ]

Yes, the Tron FP rom I offer on my site is from Tim (with his permission) at

http://www.arcadecollecting.com/hacks/tron/

The only caveat is that there are [at least] three versions of Tron,
identified only by a date code on the rom labels themselves, dated one of :

Jun 15 6/15
Jun 17 6/17
Jun 25 6/25

99% of all games are the 6/25 version,
but I have seen a few 6/15 and 6/17 versions .

So by default, I ship out the 6/25 .

If you happen to be in the 1% with a different version,
I'll send you a replacement for free.

Of course, if you can verify the version you have before ordering,
that would eliminate any guesswork.

Cheers,
Steph

Hey Steph, I need a freeplay rom for Satans Hollow, and maybe Ill try another one for my Tron. Let me know what I need to find on the board to let you know which versions I need.

Tron and DoT freeplay

just ordered both the Tron and Discs of Tron freeplay chips from Stephan at http://www.hobbyroms.com

he is most helpful!

I can't wait to get these, then no more having to open the coin door and using that credit button!
