I am looking for some help on my MCR Tron machine. I recently did the high score saves satans hollow upgrade. While doing it I decided to replace all of the original ribbon cables. Now two of the games have strange color patterns. It is most obvious with the light cycle game. I have blue lines across the screen in a grid pattern. All of the games and sounds work perfectly other than the lines in the light cycle and a few missing colors in the IO Game.

I reseated all of the new parts and ribbon cables with no changes. I contacted High score saves and they think it may be something with the new ribbon cables. I did a continuity test on the back of each board to confirm that the cables were connected. Everything was about .5 ohms. Does anyone have any ideas on what I can check next? I know enough to get myself in trouble, but I figure that is the only way to learn. Thanks in advance.

I took your advice and put the original parts back in place. No lines on the original so I have to be doing something wrong on the upgrade kit.

Unfortunately I broke a pin off of one of the ROM chips when I was taking the originals back out. It always has to be something. But its a good learning experience.

that kit sucks, I'd just leave it off.
I had to install one of those. the process was abysmal. lol

and then like the CPU reset wouldn't work afterwards to further complicate matters. I would've leaned towards it being a rom issue instead of ram cause it's only doing it on some game modes.

OP learned the hard way those headers are pretty fragile

I found the problem. One of the header pins on new kit was broken off. I dont know if it happend when I installed it or when it was shipped. I went to microcenter and got some new pins. It was my first time soldering header pins so I was a bit nervous, but I think I did well enough. That and it fixed my issues.1000045426.jpg1000045446.jpg

I'm glad it fixed your issue, and I agree...the kit sucks. It works, but it induces incredibly loud buzzing noise in my cabinet that does not exist when the kit is not installed. Contacted HSS numerous times about it and could never get it sorted out. If a JAMMA board to TRON cabinet adapter ever surfaces, I'll be putting a bitkit2 in my cabinet to play TRON and SH.

I had to fix multiple pin headers on an old model Darksoft CPS2. it was pretty agonizing. best suggestion I have for everyone is to exercise great care in handling these. lol

It was a good learning experience. I don't have any strange sounds, but I only played a couple quick rounds when I got it running.
