NEW Tron and Vs. Excitebike curb pickups *UPDATE*

Did not see your correction, but as I said, button placement says joust. Here is a pic of a robo/joust cab. Operators are lazy, picking on bubbles is more work. when in doubt, go with the game that was larger production game that was not really a hit(back then). If you want to go more obscure you could say splat, mystic marathon, or predators.

here is the thread.

Yep and notice that cab in the pic has the swoops above the control panel which every Robotron I have seen had. I had heard of some Robos being factory converted to Jousts.

ok, now I see what your talking about. Your taking above the control panel and I was thinking below. that cab needs to get a closer look.

Im still going with Sinistar and they rotated the monitor when they converted it to Excitebike to accommodate the game.
Although bubbles would be my second pick.

A couple of other minor observations is that the inside of the cabinet is oversprayed with black which true to form for Sinistar. Also if it was a painted over Bubbles or some other game, I would think you would see some blue or other colors showing through either in the corners or where there are scrapes.

Another factor that may or may not turn out to be correct is that the far left button is not a nintendo button and probably a button from the original game.
Its blue and if thats from the original game, its the correct color and in the right spot to be the player 1 button on Sinistar.

I may be wrong, but this is kind of fun.
Anyhow, it will be fun to see what the OP figures out when he pulls the CP off and looks in the back of the cab.

Cheers.

I'm still surprised at how often a non-working game is a very easy fix.
When you say non working what exactly is going on? No power at all, including monitor, marquee light?
Check main power cord and all connections.
Replace fuses.
Make sure safety switches are pulled out.
With the back door missing, that Tron might be just that.
Monitor on but no boot?
MCR, new interconnect cables, possibly new filter caps on the power supply.
Plays blind?
Monitor rebuild.

A working game will always have more selling/trading power that a few steps can help with.
That being said - these were two great pick ups. My suggestion would be to find an arcade/barcade that still has a Tron/Vs. and give them a play or two. Trons are sought after and it is highly doubtful another free one will come your way.

So it's a pretty crappy conversion and everything was painted or covered up so it's hard to tell what it is. But there are clues in the control panel. There is a plug that looks like it used to be a spinner. And a plug on the right side that looks like it may have been a small button or something. Also, the build date is May 4, 1983

There is a plug in the middle

There was this plug on the right side.

This is the original color I'm assuming. It was primed and painted so stripping it did not work :/

THE WINNER IS:
- blue paint
- straight front sides
- flat cut around CP
- CP has one large hole in center

That Tron is insanely nice for a curb find! I think that is a once in a lifetime event. I wouldn't be able to trade it, but I'd be surprised if you can't find someone in Dallas willing to trade for any or all of your wanted games.

Still amazed at this curb find :) watched the Tron video and you can actually pull out the little white interlock switch and it will lock on. You don't have to hold it in. Congrats again!

Hell, I paid more than "free" for the Tron I picked up a while back... and was able to spiff it it a bit... you can read about that HERE if you're so inclined.

Sweet!! I had a feeling if you pulled out the interlock switch it would power up. Your off to a good start now!! Find a local collector on that Facebook page referenced in a earlier comment and you will get that game running.

The static screen you're getting on the Tron is exactly what mine looked like before I got it fixed. It ended up being a problem with the power supply board. After spending weeks trying to rebuild the board, I finally gave up and bought one of the MCR power supply adapters from Arcade Shop.

http://www.arcadeshop.com/mcr/mcr.htm

It replaces the power supply board and the big cap "suitcase" and allows you to use a switching power supply. After I got it hooked up, the game worked without issue...

Good luck with it!

Thanks for the tip, Gibby. Now I don't need a second person!

Thanks for the link FrizzleFried, I'll definitely read it.

Thanks, lcharlie I will follow your advice.

Thanks LasVegas, I may have to go that route. Any ideas what the sizzling on the anode cup is? Would that adapter help with that?
