NEW Tron and Vs. Excitebike curb pickups *UPDATE*

Tron and Vs. Excitebike curb pickups

You seem New to the hobby so I'm just throwing this out there. When you tried to power up the Tron did you make sure to either hold this white switch down or pull it out so the power can stay engaged? Usually these switches are facing the back door so when the door opens the games power is shut off. Not sure your level of experience with arcades. Just trying to save you from selling something thinking it's non working and it was a simple switch. Believe me I've picked up games where it was as simple as that or re attaching connector from the wiring to the main board.

Btw if this was in cali I'd be trading you any of your want list for a Tron in a second.

Tell that woman to chill. She wouldn't walk past a 100 dollar bill on the sidewalk would she? That's money in the bank. Dude, that's fun money! That's not tell the wife money! Lol

I'll be honest: this is a sufficiently amazing find story that I am just a bit suspicious. :)

Not too terribly long ago, a Tron in about that shape showed up on Craigslist for something like $600.00, and it was gone before the local collector club could swoop on it. I don't know if any of that was for real, but like others have said, if you were local, I'd trade you your choice of a blue or orange Nintendo cab with whatever version of Kong you wanted for the Tron, and I'm sure we could work something out for the other cab!

Exactly. Fun money is what I call it too and the lady knows whats up.

Even if you parted it out it's an easy 400.00 bucks today. My 13 year old boy could make money on that. Two monitors, Tron boards, tron control panel, coin doors, marquees, harnesses, Money, money, money, money, MONEY[emoji441][emoji441][emoji441]

She is upset that I would commit to these two machines when we don't have a lot of room and they are not arcades that I ever mentioned wanting to get./QUOTE]

Not much of a commitment if you flip them in a couple of days for some cash. Is she really that worried about the space they are taking up in your garage? You just got a free Tron and Excitebike conversion that most collectors would give their arcade left nut for, plenty of trade bait there for what you want.

For my wife, it's never about the money or the space. It's more about how I just added another project to the top of my long list of unfinished projects. I also like to think she's jealous of my time. With tht said, I couldn't pass up a find like this.

If it makes you happy she will always hate it! Welcome to arcade collecting. Misery loves company! Haaaaaa

Sinistar has vertical monitor ( and cab is not as wide as others).
I'd say it might be a Robo.

OP should keep both, IMHO. Restore them.
Good point on the monitor orientation, but it could have been rotated during conversion, but with that being said, it could also be a Bubbles. It is the same as Sinistar but with a horizontal monitor. I have never seen a Robo without the swoops above the control panel. I guess Superfili should take a picture of the underside of the control panel and post it. Lot of folks looking for Bubbles cabinets. Isn't it always fun trying to figure these out :)

Thanks lcharlie for the tip. I have 2 90's machines (MK2 and Neo Geo 2-slot) so I'm not familiar with the older machines and the white switch. I'll have to check that out when I get back home. I'll report back later.

To those that are saying they would trade me, if you were close I would make that deal. I'm just not familiar with shipping freight and I know it would cost a few hundred dollars to ship.

If you check out the local area groups section on here there is a Texas group you will likely find a trade partner. I don't think you can access it or possibly see it until you reach at least 50 posts.

nice score. nothing like a free $500-$750 to make for a good day.

you don't think the horizontal monitor would be a clue its not sinistar? if you rotated the monitor, it would not fit right. at the very least, the monitor would sit lower in the cab as the shelf is lower. so 100% not sinistar.

based on button and joystick position, I would think joust in a robotron style cab.

I definitely say it is not a Robotron. Robotrons have the "swoop" above the control panel. I say it is a Sinistar. Has the deep front and looks like mine.

See my later post mrbill. I moved from Sinistar to Bubbles once the monitor position was pointed out. I don't think it is Joust either as the front in the kickplate area is wrong for Joust and still don't think it can be Robo either. Bubbles seems to be spot on if you look at pictures of the different style cabinets. Robo did have two different cabinets. One with the deep front and one with the "normal" front, but both have the curves/swoops above the control panel. I have one of each of those cabinets and both are Robos. Joust also has a little swoop below the control panel. I may be wrong, but will hang my hat on Bubbles now that I have studied the pic some more.

I say restore them both and get rid of the wife!

Imagine all the room you would have then!

:D

Dude, you sooo scored. Tron isn't even a terribly difficult game to fix. If it didn't power up at all, it could be an easy fix. Keep us updated on this. Congrats!!

Did not see your correction, but as I said, button placement says joust. Here is a pic of a robo/joust cab. Operators are lazy, picking on bubbles is more work. when in doubt, go with the game that was larger production game that was not really a hit(back then). If you want to go more obscure you could say splat, mystic marathon, or predators.
