The older I get, the more I miss being a kid in the 80's and early 90's. I grew up in Balboa CA, and spent all my free time at the FunZone. I worked at the arcades all through high school. Then I became a Mechanic at a car dealership and started working full time ever since. I've always wanted my own arcade but never had the time or space or money. I started looking for a game project a few months ago and found a VS. Hogan's Alley for 50 bucks and thanks to this web site I replaced all the caps on the monitor and got it working good as new. Thanks for all the good resources!

Great story and welcome. You'll find that if you want a machine bad enough, you'll find a way. Don't be afraid to ask questions. We're all here to help.

Nice pickup! I've never played Hogan's alley back in the day, but that machine looks very nice. :D

Great story. I guess that cab was originally a DK jr? I got a similar cab with Hogan's in it, and it was a DK jr prior to being converted to VS. Mine has problems recognizing the gun, but seems to work otherwise. I have picked up a few VS boards here and there, but have not tried them out yet. Congrats on the acquisition. Before you know it, you'll have a 2nd game, then a third.......:D

It is possible to kind of relive your childhood through these cabs, not quite the same as when your money gets stuck, YOU get the keys out and get it back. If you have no change, never mind, YOU get the keys out and flick a switch. Bitd, this was not possible and takes away the romanticism slightly.

At 44, I believe I am doing the mid-life crisis thing and all will be ok soon, who am I kidding, I can't stop buying the damn things :)

Andy, you need to get one of those 10p pushers.

Then when you run out of coins to play Defender go and start acting all shifty around it, look over your shoulder several times and give it a whack every now and again when you think no one is looking.

Eventually, hey presto! 10p to play Defender.

EXACTLY like being a kid again :)

Wow,
Funzone! I grew up in Chatsworth and Granada hills and the funzone was where I found my love for arcades in the 80's and 90's too!
