tricks to keeping cats off games?

If I leave the coin door open, my cats go into the games and fall asleep! Have to always check when I turn a game on!
Isn't there an old tale of cats climbing up into engine compartments of cars in the winter to keep warm, and then someone starts the car?

live with it , seriously. id rather have them laying on top vs hanging out inside one.. bad things happen, i have a video to prove it lol

Cat repellant. Its used to keep cats off of couches and such and is suppose tyo be odorless

As a retailer of pet repellents, I can tell you that spray repellents are NOT odorless. It's the #1 complaint. I personally use, and recommend, the CatScram for games and my workbench.

Antifreeze.
Just kidding, I love cats.

But that would work.

Since this gets mentioned a lot, I thought I would add my $0.02 lest someone think it's a good idea. Antifreeze isn't a poison in the traditional sense. It kills by crystalizing in the kidneys and liver causing them to fail. Death is very slow (days) and extremely painful. It would be more humane to club the cat to death with a tire iron.

If you feel you must destroy an animal, please do it humanely.

don't scare the cats when they are near the games.

yeah, it's odd, dan. normally they don't mind the vacuum, it's my dogs that get freaked out. i think misty lost her footing or something. she's declawed in the front so her back claws are the ones that go searching for something to hold on to.

does a compressed air can work? seems like a blast of air would scare them. anyone ever tried that?

and cadillacman, i know what you mean. i had them go through the coin door in my tron once. it was unpleasant.

Yes, compressed air does work. If you look at our webstore page, the product called StayAway combines a can of air with a motion detector.

BUT... be sure to use air *before* they get onto the game unless you like fixing scratch marks.

I just googled this to find the best way. . .(not really)

1) Grab the cat by the tail and yank him off the game in a fast, but fluid motion. Do not let go, and immediately start to whirl the cat like a helicopter until you start to hover a few inches off the ground. Then put the cat back on the ground, pet his head once and say good kitty. Follow up positive reinforcement with a beggin strip.

2) You can install a Mortal Kombat pit fatality stage replica kit on top of the game.

As someone else mentioned....Aluminum foil. It worked great for me. My cat used to sit on my Tron machine. I placed a piece of aluminum foil on it....and came home later to see the celing tile above the machine was not in place. He must have have jumped up on the machine and landed on the foil, freaked, and jumped into the celing to get off of it!! Haven't seen him on it since!!

I think looping over some painters tape so that it's also sticky on top might be the best place to start. Painters tape won't hurt the game at all. I would imagine you'll only need to leave it there for a while as the cat gets conditioned. Folks, it's not nice to declaw your cats.
Have a look- http://www.declawing.com/

Nerf Gun

Wont hurt the cat or the game but the moment they hear it being cocked or shot they KNOW they should not be there after a couple of peltings they stay off for good.

not to mention...and lets be honest we have ALL thought of this...its funny as hell lol

We have 3 cats, none of them declawed (never considered it). From time to time they get on top of the video games and leave pawprints all over the pinball playfield glass.

They've never done any damage, so I've never bothered trying to find a way to discourage them. I just clean a little bit of fur off of the top of the cabs, and windex the paw prints every now and again.

Make sure you have other way-up places they can get to in your home.

If the arcade machine(s) are the only high perch you have, a cat is most likely gonna find a way to get up there - especially if you've got more than one pet.
