Monitor was beyond fixin, but my local tv man got me a used Tri mode 25 inch, makvision. Installed it, and of course it didnt work. Wont sync. It came with an adaptor to change the game input RGB to a momitor cable. I tryed 4065 different configurations of the sync, no change. I can see game, but there are three screens and they keep scrolling. I took it back to tv man, he hooked it up and showed me it worked fine. I agreed, it works fine, so i took it home again, still wont sync.
So, Could there be something wrong with game board that would cause this? I verified the jamma connections, power, everything. My tv man said he can stop by and try to fix it, but im pretty sure its not the monitor.

any suggestions?????????

Possibility that it has a bad chip that handles the video, like some of the Nintendo boards.

is your adapter using the negative composite sync? I don't think it'll sync if it's jumpered for using the H-V on the positive side. of course, I think that's how the monitor cable is wired too.... I don't think they do composite. but nonetheless, it should be negative sync, not positive.

check your adapter, are the sync pins closest to the RGB and ground pins? if it's spaced like 4 pins before the next wire then that could explain it.

Ok, im kinda confused but let me try to explain what i have. Cruisn outputs R G B Ground and a white sync wire. I plug this into the adaptor and the R G B and ground line up. I have moved my Cruisn white sync wire from the adaptor white and the adaptor yellow, and neither spot makes it sync. I dont know what else to try. I have seen the monitor work fine. I just cant get it to sync on this Cruisn

Im at a total loss

we dropped a 27" Makvision tri-mode in our DDR back in '08... that's standard res however. I'm not entirely sure if it's auto-sense like the Wells D-series... is there any kind of resolution adjustments anywhere?

and Makvision sucks in the manual department. nothing on their site. :(

if it's triple image then like discgolfer says, that's trying to run medium res on a standard res monitor. but if it's a tri-sync, it's capable of running medium res, you just have to figure out how to set it on that.

How?? thats the big question

Get us some pictures of the chassis board. There could be jumper settings that need to be adjusted.

still no luck, have verified all wires, monitor takes one sync wire, game only has one sync wire. I have tried the sync wire in both positions anyway, no change. Monitor seems stuck on low resolution, wont auto switch to medium resolution. My tv guy hooked it up to a NFL blitz, it works great. I remain stumped. I have looked at the chassis and there are no jumpers or switches. No manual, I am still at a loss

Have you tried using the Video Impedance select switch? As mentioned on page 8
Should be located on the remote adjustment board if this manual matches the monitor.

Somehow handles whether a game runs with or without a video amp.
I'm not saying it's the cause, but we can't rule out the possibility.

We also can't rule out there may be something wrong with your Cusin USA board.
Do you have another Medium Resolution game to run on that monitor?
Not the one your TV repair man hooked it up to.........

yep, tried that. Havnt tried it in another game, but he did in NFL Blitz, works fine. I saw it working, he didnt make it up. He might come over today to look at it, but I feel like ive tried every combination, he said he might bring a med res monitor with him, but I really want this monitor, because it is almost brand new, manufactured date of last august! Definetely a sync issue, just seems like monitor is stuck on low res, and wont switch. I hope he fixes it, I dont mind being wrong!!! Ill let you guys know what the issue was if he fixes it

Monitor, TV repair man came. Still broke! He thinks it defaults to standard res, and isnt switching to med res as needed for Cruisn. He unpinned all the wires and was playing with then on the connector, but no luck. At some point, maybe when he was manipulating the ground pin, it clicked a bunch of times, and briefly locked in at med res, but didnt stay. We believe the clicking to be the switches or relays controlling the switching to med or high res, it just wouldnt lock in. He is gonna go over the schematic and see if there is a way to override the relay or switch, and force it to med res. He is supposed to get bsck to me on Monday. We are having a party next Saturday and would like to have it working.

Is it me, or do these games seem to know when a party is coming up? I always have some sort of game performance issue before a party. WTF???? Stage fright?

Well, tv guy gave me another monitor, a medium res one to try, no luck, same problem, so its not a monitor problem. He says he has never seen a board cause sync issues, just my luck. He is gonna call an op he knows and see if they have a Cruisn board to help test with, but if they dont, I just wanna smash the game. Im worn out over messing with it. I repainted it and have the cabinet looking great, looks new from a couple feet away, I just have no idea how to get it running. I wish I still have my other one to test parts with!!!!

doesn't necessarily mean it's the board. I've seen in many instances where the original Midway JAMMA harnesses break. you need to verify that you have continuity at the sync pin going to the header before you get crazy with tracking down boards just yet.

for what it's worth, I had the sync pin go bad in my old MK cab, along with some of the primary colors. replaced the JAMMA harness, done.

I have an update,
My monitor repair guy found a possible working Cruisn board to try. Unfortunately, it wouldnt boot. Then we figured out the monitor I was testing with is a standard res monitor. It had worked in his NFL Blitz, however he looked into it farther and NFL Blitz can be standard or medium res, his is obviously a standard res. Then, my switcher went out. I then said what the f&$(@$!!!!!!!! He left, I dug out an old switcher and installed it. We had played around switching the chips back and forth from my board to the other one, and now of course my board wont boot!! So, I have a working switcher in now, and ordered a supposedly fully working board, which should be here in a few days. I am gonna trade this standard res monitor back to my tv man for the original one I bought, the Makvision trimode. I did learn that there is a chip that controls the syncing, which was probably faulty on my original board, thus causing it to not be able to sync with the trimode monitor originally. I know the trimode monitor works great, and as long as the board I ordered works, I should be back in the Cruisn business. This adventure isnt over, but zi feel confident that it will get resolved this week with the working board.
i think my switcher going out did something to my board, then probably his board!!! One good thing is that I located another fully working Cruisn USA at a local operator I have dealt with before, and its mine for a good price if I want it. I told him Ill take it, once my Cruisn is working again, so I might have a dual driver by next weekend!!! I havent seen his Cruisn, but it works fully, and he will deliver. The pricr cant be beat either. I had another Cruisn before, but I havr never had two at the same time. Looking forward to a linked setup!!!!! I will then need to find the Topper!!!! Anybody know of any Cruisn USA toppers for sale???

Ok, think I got it figured out. Aparently if you take the battery off the board, it boots into test mode, and you need to push the test button to boot the game the furst time. Without a monitor to show you this, I thought game wasnt booting. when I tried the other board, I switched thr battery, causing that board not to boot, then my board not to boot, cause it was just booting into test mode. I got another working board off ebay and it wouldnt boot either, until I figured out to hit the test button. That ebay board had a dead battery also, had probably been sittingmfor awhile. Now I just need to get the monitor synced, but I have learned tht Cruisn has a chip that controls the sync, of which mine is probably broke. I am re picking up the medium reso monitor tmw to check, and assuming this ebay boards sync chip is good, zi might be cruisn again!! Wish me luck!!!
