transporting a game with a hard drive

Depends on how you move it. I have a truck with a lift-gate and I move Golden Tee's etc lots of times with no problem. I've had more issued with HD's that were taken out "for safekeeping" that no longer worked when you put them back in....

I've hauled both my drivers in the fashion you see below (yep, heads turn to this site for sure). One about 100 miles and the other was about 150 miles. Hard drives still attached, and that little trailer has no suspension whatsoever. Havent had any problems. But with that said, removing it is not a bad idea, just make sure you have some bubble wrap or anti static bag to protect it, don't just lay it in your car or truck somewhere or your defeating the purpose.

You must not have a back-bar? I transport the games upright when moving with the lift-gate:

moved 2 games with hd about a month ago, ride home was so rough I lost a backdoor on the way lol (didnt hit anyone thank goodness, ended up in a ditch) both play fine

luckily, i havent had any trouble moving a game with a HD in it
of the games ive built that had a HD in it, ive always installed the HD on a piece of rubber to absorb as much shock as possible. but who knows, probably does nothing

Will the hard drive be ok or should I remove it just to be safe?

So long as the drive is powered down and the head is parked correctly it will be fine. I've never removed a drive from a game to move them and I've been moving games way before hard drives were used in them.

Most drives are really easy to duplicate these days. Area51 is one of those that you can burn from the MAME archive.

I think your asking for more trouble moving the game on its side then anything else. Not too mention the potential for damage to the side art. I'd move it on its back if it has to lie down.

Actually yes I have a lift and a whole back bar portion so i could stand up if necessary. I am only leaning towards putting it on its side because they are calling for rain and I have a canvas tarp I can put over the top if I put the machine on its side.

Wrap it up in plastic wrap. That industrial saran wrap is great. We had a tropical storm come through last Tuesday and I delivered a Star Trek TNG pinball in the middle of it and it was dry when I was done. No tarp needed...

really, alright. You mean like shrink wrap it right? I could probably snag some from my work.

Anyways I checked the weather network this morning and they are saying sunny skies all day now :D
