Just wondering if anyone has tried these:

I got free samples directly from the manufacturer (Mill-Max MFG CORP Oyster Bay, N.Y.)

Not sure if they will work well on a vertical mounted CPU board. My jar loose but I tested the fit and it is pretty snug.

I'll probably give it a try. Waiting for a reply on my NASCAR transistor post before I pull the board and try one.

The problem with any socket is that the connection will not stay tight and clean. If any connection becomes corroded you will have lost electrical conduction rendering it useless. Your question was "are these sockets any good" I would suggest the question that you want to ask yourself is "how often do I want to maintain this socket for reliability"?

On a temporary basis while I am troubleshooting other things, I think it will be a good idea to use them. I think I will go through a few transistors in the same location before I can figure it out the over-all problem with the board. Or send the board in. Any ideas were to send the STERN board from a NASCAR.
