Tranquility Base Arcade - Bar/Lounge Update...

You are an LED God. Now you need an LED TV and you have completed all LED Stages. And for a bonus round. See what you can do to light up that bowl? Maybe some LED in the back, fill it up with Water and throw some fish in there and BAM! Magic!

Great job man. I love it!

Ha! I actually do have a small LED TV in the corner by the ceiling...you can just see it in one of the photo's. I would say I'm an LED apprentice at this point..."But we are willing to learn" <Stripes reference>. Incidentally, I found on-line they actually sell an 'LED light kit' for the bowl I have...but it doesn't change color! And for the $50 bucks they want...I have passed for now. I even tried to light the bowl with simulated holes in the counter and the LED's from below but it didn't work. I figure I might try to incorporate some kind of LED booze bottle rack or something along those lines. Just wait...I'm sure somebody on KLOV is working on a LED floor or ceiling......hmmmmmmmm......interesting......;)

Are you familiar with The Planet P song "Tranquility Base"?

I really love the whole album. Great songs like "Why ME?", "Power Tools", "Ruby", and "King For a Day".

BTW nice arcade. Does your Space Encounters have a red lens over the flash bulb or is it just white?

Absolutely! I was in high school in the early 80's and remember Planet P all to well. They always had the coolest videos....remember that line from 'Why Me'...."He wont be back this way till 2010" LOL...that always seemed like an eternity away.

My Space Encounters has the factory red incandescent bulb and the white strobe - here is a video of it in action - Great Game!:

The whole room looks really clean and futuristic. So cool.
Love the glowing coasters! Brief rundown on how you made them? Acrylic epoxied into the corian surface?

Your bar area KICKS ASS!! [jaw hits floor...then goes thru floor]

You really brought some magic to that space Alan. Congrats on making it look so frickin cool!

Wish I had the talent to do that.....

Yep...that is pretty much it. No corain. Corian proved to be very expensive and any custom cutting on the outside to my schedule was pretty much out the window so I went another route. I purchased an old beat up dining room table off CL and cut it up on my table saw. For the coasters I cut the holes in the table top on my vertical mill (just like a Bridgeport) and then used a boring bar to recess a counterbore into them 0.125". Used white acrylic and was lucky enough to have one of my buddies hook me up with a guy running a Universal laser cutter (very cool!) to cut out the circles for me. I painted the counter top black, popped in the circles and then did a 'poured epoxy' finish over the whole thing. I lit them with individual LED's from below...

Hey Alan where do you buy your LED's from? Also keep me posted if you ever have a local game night I would really like to check out some of your games, you have a great lineup. Once again great looking arcade.

Thanks!

I used USLEDSupply...I had no problems dealing with them. LED's are funny as most of the products you have to custom mount or come up with your own method of housing the them as well as the controllers...
