Well...as some of you may know last year I began work on converting a small laundry room into lounge/bar area. I removed the old stone sink, sold off the extra washer and dryer and was left with about a 10' X 10' space. I completed the drywall, direct attach ceiling and flooring last year...took a break...and then over the last few months worked on the custom bar area. The idea was to match my LED doorways with some kind of custom LED feature built into a counter top. After having severe sticker shock pricing out custom cut Corian I decided to build everything from scratch and started with a beat up old table top I purchased on CL for $40 bucks. I finally have it to a point where pictures can show my progress. I also realized pictures do not do the LED's justice. In person they have crisp eye popping color but in photos they appear washed out and inconsistent. It could also be the crummy photographer as well! Anyways...enjoy the silliness that continues to go on at Tranquility Base Arcade...or even follow my blog as I roll along... :)

Of course...my girls have made me try every type of juice...pop...even Gatorade to watch the drinks flash and change colors before their eyes - hilarious! The 'glowing coasters' have been a huge hit so far and it seems like my plan to encourage patrons to put their drinks on them and not on the games just might work! ;) Here are some more shots...

Very nice - looks like a good spot to relax (hence the name?).

Love the phone by they way and how your have it playing back the recording.

I hate you because of how awesome that looks! :D

Nothing personal, just general jealousy.

Hey Kraj, you need to do something like this for your bar...

very nice... seems the economy doesnt effect some people huh?

LOL :).....thus the $40 junk table used for my counter and building everything from scratch myself. The older I get I would like to say "Yes...that is what I want...please build me the 'glowing LED bar' right there...and have it done by Friday because I have guests coming over on Saturday". Honestly, I like the challenge of working with my hands and the reality...the LED's were left over from my doorway project....the counters, faucet, sink, epoxy and everything else you see was well under $250 bucks. The only real expense was the cabinets and they were a deal from Ikea. And of course....my time....which if you paid me by the duration to complete this project it really cost $150,410.00....but in reality....I was paid more like $0.05 cents per hour which is the standard rate my wife allows...;)

It looks bad ass. My only critique would be the wasted space of the big bowl sink in the corner (looks like a sink anyway.)

Good observation...as my original plan had a drop in or under-mount stainless sink. However...the LED's/Plexi/wiring take up 10" from the counter edge rearward...so that ended anything going through the counter. The look of LED's like Christmas lights never appealed to me...so to get a 'glowing effect' was the reason for the 10" distance.

"looks like a sink"....LOL....my wife said the same thing when she first saw it. "Is that a sink?" :)
