Tragedy Strikes - 720 cabinet rebuild

I've got the same in a tube waiting for me to get to it. Not sure what's up. Maybe the latest batch the screening company forgot to screen in a light block layer?

There is a 720 restoration thread where they actually masked off an painted the plexi behind it. They were not sure if it was masked from the factory or not.
Can't find the thread right now but these are the pics I pulled:

During the search I found these:

Backlit using incandescent. Not sure wattage:

Same, notes vinyl from TOG but not specific about boom box overlay

FYI: OEM speaker shown here:
Yeah, this shouldn't be necessary, and my originals were just clear plastic, no extra light blocking masking needed.

Yes, this is odd, especially with the lower 15w equivalent bulb he's using now. It really seems like something is different with the overlays being sold today. Maybe go with an even lower wattage bulb. Now I'm wondering what's in mine, bulb wise. Mine has the smallest amount of bleed, it's hard to even see it. But maybe there's a 5 or 10
watt bulb?? 🤔

Ok so this got me interested... I went downstairs and pulled my newly purchased art (end of last year ish) and took a pic with sunlight backlight. Looks like this will work out assuming it's not super bright. Clearly there's a light blocking layer screened in. You can see the 3M backing showing through where it isn't

Yeah, it's definitely different than mine. Where did you get that one?

Phoenix Arcade. Just looked at the shipping tube, bought 12/23. Oof, so yea, I need to get moving on some projects LOL

I actually LOL'd when reading that.

I've liked everything I've gotten from them historically, but this has me a bit bummed. Does anyone know them well enough to know if it'd be worth it to call them to ask what's up w/the newer ones?
